* Ukrainian General: Russia is 'trapped' in Bakhmut: On July 10, writing on Telegram , General Oleksander Syrskyi, commander of the Ukrainian ground forces, affirmed: “Bakhmut. The enemy is trapped. The city is under the fire control of our forces. The enemy is being pushed out of their positions.”
Commenting on the situation in the south, General Oleksander Tarnavskyi said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VSU) are “continuing to move”, while the Russian army has lost “hundreds of people” in the past 24 hours.
Writing on Telegram , Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar stated that over the past week, Kiev forces have regained control of 10.2 square kilometers of territory in the south and 4 square kilometers in the east.
Accordingly, Kiev has regained control of 169 square kilometers in the southern region and 24 square kilometers around Bakhmut since launching the counter-offensive campaign.
For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian Armed Forces (VS RF) repelled several attacks in three areas of Donetsk, including Klishchiivka, the epicenter of recent clashes in Bakhmut.
In addition, according to Moscow, the VS RF has thwarted VSU attacks in the south, including near the village of Rivnopil - a region Ukraine claims to have regained control of in the past two weeks.
* Zelensky: Ukraine needs to be a 'de facto member' of NATO after the Summit: On July 10, speaking in a video message posted on Telegram , Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: "The majority of the Alliance stands with us. When we applied to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), we said it straight: Ukraine is already in the alliance. Our weapons are the weapons of the alliance... All this must be confirmed in Vilnius".
According to him, the provision of additional weapons to Kiev will also be discussed at this Conference: “I am sure there will be positive news from Vilnius about weapons for us.”
On the same day, in an interview with ARD channel (Germany), Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on Berlin to stop preventing his country from joining NATO, and called on the German government not to repeat the mistakes of the previous administration.
Berlin and Washington are currently considered the two biggest obstacles to Kiev's efforts to join NATO. Recently, in an interview with CNN (USA) before visiting Europe and attending the alliance's Summit in Vilnus, Lithuania, US President Joe Biden affirmed that the Russia-Ukraine conflict must end before NATO can consider adding Kiev to its membership list.
However, the leader also emphasized that Washington will continue to provide weapons to the administration of President Volodymyr Zelensky to gain an advantage on the ground.
* Bulgaria: Conflict may spread beyond Ukraine: On July 10, the Bulgarian State Agency for National Security (DANS), the country's counterintelligence agency, published a report stating that confrontational actions could spread beyond Ukraine.
According to the report, Russia's military activities in Ukraine have strained the European security system, caused an escalation of confrontation between countries and led to global food, economic and energy insecurity.
The conflict in Ukraine and growing instability in the Western Balkans could have serious implications for Bulgaria’s national security. Meanwhile, the cyclical rise in tensions in the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa also has negative implications.
In addition, DANS believes that the Black Sea and Caucasus regions are becoming of primary importance to Bulgaria due to the conflict in Ukraine. This forces NATO combat forces to focus on protecting member states and containing Russia.
