Proposal to increase pension by 8% from July 1
Vietnam Social Security (VSS) has just sent comments to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs on the plan to adjust pensions, social insurance benefits and monthly allowances in 2024. Accordingly, Vietnam Social Security proposed an increase of 8% for pensioners in both the public and private sectors from July 1, with an estimated cost of more than VND 8,800 billion.
If approved, the State budget is expected to allocate an additional VND1,900 billion in the last 6 months of the year; an additional VND50 billion if the benefit level is adjusted to VND3.5 million per month for those who retired before 1995. The Social Insurance Fund will increase by about VND6,900 billion, excluding health insurance contributions. (See more)
Upcoming family deduction in personal income tax
Tien Phong Newspaper reported that in the Resolution of the regular Government meeting in January 2024, the Government requested the Ministry of Finance to study and propose to the Government to adjust the family deduction level in calculating personal income tax (PIT) to support and remove difficulties in people's lives.
Previously, in the Resolution of the 5th session of the 15th National Assembly in July 2023, the National Assembly requested the Government to study a plan to adjust and increase the family deduction level for personal income tax.
'Electricity rescue' hotline for the North: Report to the Government on temporary forest use
The draft Decree on the temporary use of forests for the construction of power source and grid projects for socio-economic development in the national and public interest clearly states the special nature of power grid lines, especially 500kV transmission lines.
Accordingly, most of the power lines go through forests and mountains with complex terrain, so the pole foundations are far from existing traffic routes.
Due to the special nature of power grid lines, especially 500kV transmission lines, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just sent the Government a draft proposal on temporary use of forests for project construction. (See more)
Ensuring people's rights when banks are subject to mass withdrawals
On the morning of February 19, the Office of the President held a press conference to announce the President's orders on promulgating the amended Law on Credit Institutions, which was passed by the National Assembly in mid-January.
The Law on Credit Institutions supplements regulations on mass withdrawals, clearly stipulating the measures to be applied when a credit institution is subject to mass withdrawals, including the bank's own measures and measures to support liquidity, ensure system safety, and ensure the rights of depositors. Prime Minister requests EVN, PVN, TKV to quickly implement Power Plan VIII
The Prime Minister has just signed and issued Directive 07 on innovation in governance, improving production and business efficiency and strongly promoting investment and development of corporations, general companies and state-owned enterprises.
The Prime Minister requested Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) and their affiliated units to promptly and effectively implement the 8th Power Plan according to regulations, ensuring national energy security, providing enough electricity for production, business and people's consumption.
Ministry of Public Security proposes auction of motorbike license plates, starting at 5 million VND
In order to prepare for the National Assembly to consider and approve the draft Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, according to Tien Phong Newspaper, the Ministry of Public Security has just drafted a report to the National Assembly explaining some contents of the bill that National Assembly deputies commented on at the recent 6th session.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Public Security proposed expanding the scope of vehicle license plate auctions, including car, motorcycle, and motorbike license plates, to meet the wishes of people who want to own license plates according to their preferences.
The starting price of a car license plate put up for auction is not lower than 40 million VND; the starting price of a motorcycle license plate put up for auction is not lower than 5 million VND; the step price is 10% of the starting price.
Prime Minister requests research to expand visa exemption policy
Tuoi Tre Newspaper reported that according to Directive No. 06 on urging the implementation of key tasks after the 2024 Lunar New Year holiday, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Public Security to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and localities to study and propose policies to expand visa exemption for citizens of a number of countries in accordance with the new situation and bilateral cooperation relations.
Also related to this content, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to urgently summarize and evaluate the application of the unilateral visa exemption policy for citizens of 13 countries in the past; proactively coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security to propose expanding the list of countries whose citizens are unilaterally exempted from visas to Vietnam.
