(Fatherland) - On the morning of November 16, at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism (Dong Mo, Son Tay, Hanoi), the opening ceremony of the 7th Then singing and Tinh lute art festival of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups took place in 2024. The festival is the first activity held in Hanoi in the series of activities of the "Great National Unity - Vietnamese Cultural Heritage" Week in 2024.
In her opening speech, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung, Director of the Department of Ethnic Culture (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Deputy Head of the Festival Organizing Committee affirmed: The Then cultural heritage of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in Vietnam is a unique form of folk art and culture created by the working people, closely associated with daily life, becoming an essential need in the spiritual life of the people of all ethnic groups.
With its unique artistic values, Then has contributed to nurturing the soul, emotions, will, and aspiration to rise up and build a prosperous and happy life for the Tay, Nung, and Thai people, passed down from generation to generation.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung, Director of the Department of Ethnic Culture, delivered the opening speech of the Festival.
"With the theme "Preserving and promoting the art of Then singing and Tinh lute of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in the current period", the Festival is an opportunity to introduce and promote the cultural heritage values of the nation to domestic and international friends, thereby honoring the unique cultural and artistic forms of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups, contributing to raising awareness of preserving, promoting, developing and constantly creating new cultural values in the period of sustainable national development, expanding international integration, building an advanced Vietnamese culture with strong national identity.
The festival will create a good impression on visitors about the values of Vietnamese cultural heritage in general, and the art of Then singing and Tinh lute in particular.
The festival is also an opportunity to preserve and promote the value of the representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity on "Then practice of the Tay, Nung, Thai people, which was recognized by UNESCO on December 12, 2019 at the 14th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage 2003" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Nhung said.

The festival has the participation of artisans, artists, and actors who are Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups living, studying, and working in 15 provinces and cities, including: Hanoi, Bac Giang, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Son La, Dak Nong, Dak Lak, and Lam Dong.
Organizing Committee awarded Festival flags to participating units
Within the framework of the 7th Then singing and Tinh lute art festival of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups in 2024, many attractive activities will take place, such as: Exhibition space to introduce traditional cultural products of localities participating in the festival; demonstration of traditional brocade weaving and Tinh lute making of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups; display, processing and introduction of traditional ethnic cuisine; photo exhibition "Heritage of Then singing and Tinh lute art"; thematic exhibition "Then cultural heritage in the life of the Tay, Nung and Thai ethnic groups; performance to introduce the art of Then singing and Tinh lute.

On November 16, the groups will perform Then singing and Tinh lute at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism.
On November 17, especially, for the first time, artists and actors from 14 provinces and cities attending the festival will parade on the central streets of Hanoi and perform and introduce the art of Then singing and Tinh lute at the stage area of Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc square./.
