While Apple allows iPhone users to send high-quality photos and videos to each other, data sent to Android phones is grainy and slower to send. Apple's use of green for messages sent via the traditional SMS protocol also creates a kind of 'class divide' between iPhone and Android users.
Apple has previously resisted adopting RCS messaging, the protocol most Android phones use. In November 2023, the company announced that it would begin supporting RCS in 2024, but it did not mention iMessage. Apple’s move comes amid pressure from competitors and regulators. In addition, the European Union’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) requires tech companies to make their services interoperable with other platforms. The US government could make a similar move in the future.

Super app
Super app is a term used to refer to an application that integrates many features such as messaging, food ordering, digital payments... on the same platform.
Dipanjan Chatterjee, an analyst at market research firm Forrester, said the super app would threaten Apple’s centrality in the lives of iPhone users. The emergence of an app similar to WeChat, which is known as the everything app in China, would bring many benefits to users and developers, reducing dependence on the iPhone, making it easier to switch to other smartphones, and creating a consistent experience across platforms.
The concept of super apps has yet to really catch on in the US. However, the US government believes that people are not interested in super apps because Apple has dominated the smartphone market and hindered their distribution on the App Store. The lawsuit accuses Apple of suppressing other competitors with high terms and fees on the App Store, limiting third-party companies from interacting with its brand and services.
More open services
According to Wired , Apple is requiring Apple Watch users to own iOS devices to keep customers locked into its own ecosystem. If the DOJ wins its case, other companies' hardware, such as smartwatches, will have the opportunity to interact with many of Apple's devices and software, including the iPhone and the Fitness+ service.
The US government has also criticized Apple for its lack of support for cloud services. If Apple loosens its policies, users will be able to access games and other cloud apps without investing in expensive devices like the latest iPhones and iPads.
