(Dan Tri) - In the list of 10 best-selling car models in Vietnam in the first half of 2023, the most notable is the presence of two electric car models from the VinFast brand.
The average sales of the 10 best-selling car models in Vietnam in the first half of 2023 decreased sharply. The main reason is that the market is affected by the economic recession, dealers have a lot of cars in stock but low purchasing power, and users are indifferent to deep discount programs.
The No. 1 position belongs to Mitsubishi Xpander with accumulated sales in the first 6 months of the year reaching 7,982 vehicles, down 1.26% compared to the same period last year. This result is still encouraging for Xpander in the context of facing additional competitive pressure from new products such as Toyota Veloz Cross, Hyundai Stargazer or Kia Carens.
This position originally belonged to Toyota Vios, but by the end of the first half of 2023, this B-class sedan sold only 5,425 vehicles, down nearly 55% compared to the same period last year. Not only did it lose its leading position in the entire market, Vios is also no longer the best-selling product in the segment, replaced by Hyundai Accent.
Bucking the general downward trend, Ford Ranger sales grew 18% compared to the first half of 2022, reaching 7,600 vehicles and ranking second only to Xpander. Experts say this success is due to dealers regularly offering Ranger at big discounts.
Similar to its "brother" Vios, Toyota Corolla Cross's consumption also decreased by nearly 42%. However, this B+ crossover model still sells better than products in the B-SUV and C-SUV segments.
The names that disappeared from the list of 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam in the first half of 2023 include VinFast Fadil (discontinued), Kia Seltos and Kia K3. Replacing these products are VinFast VF e34, VF 8 and Toyota Veloz Cross.
It can be seen that Vietnamese customers' tastes are mainly focused on high-chassis cars, with only 3 sedan models: Vios, Accent and City. The remaining products include 1 pickup truck, 2 small MPV models, 1 B+ crossover model, 2 C-size SUVs and only 1 D-SUV.
Japanese cars still dominate the market with 6 representative "faces", 1 Korean car model, 1 American product, but Vietnamese cars occupy 2 positions. Of which, VinFast VF 8 is the best-selling D-size SUV segment, surpassing both Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Santa Fe.
