Meeting of the Council for reviewing outstanding events of the Natural Resources and Environment sector in 2024

(TN&MT) - On the morning of December 17, in Hanoi, the Council for Judging Events of the Natural Resources and Environment Sector in 2024 held a Council meeting to select events of interest to the community, news agencies, and the press. Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Minh Ngan, Chairman of the Council chaired the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Minh Ngan said that the review and announcement of events of the Natural Resources and Environment sector has been carried out for many years. This is one of the important activities of the Ministry that has received attention and been widely publicized by the community and press agencies, aiming to honor events that have positive impacts, effects, and spillover effects on life and society. Thereby, contributing to raising public awareness, improving the effectiveness of resource management, environmental protection and climate change adaptation.

According to the report of the Standing Council, this year there are a total of 16 events that meet the criteria and conditions and have been posted for public consultation on the Ministry's Electronic Information Portal. These events are compiled by the Standing Council based on proposals from units under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Departments of Natural Resources and Environment of provinces and cities. In addition, there are a number of events with the advice and proposals of the Standing Council.

The results of the consultation event show that the issues that were of interest and voted for also reflect the people's wishes for the Ministry and the sector from: The 2024 Land Law takes effect 5 months earlier than planned; solutions and policies to unlock land resources; The Law on Geology and Minerals is issued with the first institutionalization of geological activities; For the first time, Vietnam builds and issues a National Marine Spatial Plan; then the National Environmental Protection Plan towards green transformation based on the development of a circular economy, green economy, and low-carbon economy; River basin water resources are managed according to scenarios, with seasonal divergence; updating the National Plan for Climate Change Adaptation for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050; integrating resource and environmental data for sustainable development.

In particular, 2024 - a transition year between El Nino and La Nina, with record heat, super storms, extremely heavy rain and floods, and severe landslides on a large scale in the North; at the same time, the Early Warning System was activated synchronously to contribute to mitigating damage to the community...

At the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Minh Ngan requested the Council members to discuss openly and frankly, give objective opinions, and comprehensively evaluate the event proposals to ensure science and high quality so that the Council has a basis for completion, reporting to the Minister for consideration and approval.

Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Trinh Xuan Quang - Deputy Chief of Office of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said: In 2024, there will be a total of 16 events that meet standards and conditions and have been posted for public consultation. The proposed events basically cover the fields of state management of the Ministry (land management, environmental protection, biodiversity, geology and minerals, water resources, hydrometeorology, climate change, seas and islands); some events are international and representative; related to the tasks of digital transformation and administrative reform.

In addition, a number of units have proactively coordinated with the Standing Committee of the Council to complete the content of proposed events (in the fields of land, environment, water resources, climate change, etc.); a number of events were proposed based on the synthesis of public opinion and press interest (such as the event "Promoting solutions and policies to unlock land resources, protect the environment, towards the goal of net zero emissions", with the highest voting rate of 72.1%; events related to Record heat, super storms, extremely heavy rain and floods, severe landslides over a large area in the North, etc.)...

According to Mr. Trinh Xuan Quang, the Ministry's Office has coordinated with the Department of Digital Transformation and Natural Resources and Environment Data to post and consult these 16 events on the Ministry's Electronic Information Portal for 10 days (starting from 15:00 on December 2, 2024, ending at 15:00 on December 12, 2024).

At the meeting, the council members discussed and discussed to select the events of the Natural Resources and Environment Sector in 2024 to ensure compliance with Decision No. 2601/QD-BTMT of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on promulgating regulations for reviewing and announcing annual events of the Natural Resources and Environment Sector, which are events that ensure the following criteria: Being typical, exemplary, taking place for the first time; Having a wide range of influence or having important political significance; Attracting great public attention, affecting social life and having a direct impact on state management policies.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Minh Ngan acknowledged and highly appreciated the contributions of the Council members. At the same time, he requested the Standing Committee of the Council to absorb, synthesize, continue to coordinate in reviewing, editing the name, content and explanation of the event to ensure succinctness, sharpness and prominence, then collect the opinions of the Council members before submitting to the Minister for signature and promulgation.
