On the afternoon of July 18, the Vietnam Stage Artists Association informed art units nationwide to prepare well in all aspects to participate in festivals to achieve high results.
Accordingly, the 3 theater festivals in 2024 include: Children's Theater Festival in the first quarter, Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival in April and the 6th Capital Theater Festival in September.
People's Artist Trinh Thuy Mui, President of the Vietnam Stage Artists Association, said that the Children's Stage Festival aims to overcome the shortage of stage works serving teenagers and children in recent times. She hopes that through the works participating in the festival, they will contribute to orienting towards good things, thoughts, and actions of truth - goodness - beauty, condemning and avoiding bad and evil in the process of forming the personality of teenagers and children.
"In addition, the festival also promotes the responsibility of the community, family, and society in caring for, educating, protecting, and loving the future owners of the country. This is also an activity to promote the role and responsibility of the performing arts and those working in the performing arts field towards the young generation" - People's Artist Trinh Thuy Mui emphasized.
According to Meritorious Artist Le Thien, in the upcoming festivals, she is interested in the art playground for children. Because for a long time, children have lacked many scripts suitable for their age.
"In Ho Chi Minh City, in addition to the program "Once upon a time", there is now Truong Hung Minh stage, Ho Chi Minh City Small Stage Drama Theater has staged programs and plays for children. Organizing the festival will help units exchange and learn from experiences, aiming to organize good performances to serve children's audiences" - Meritorious Artist Le Thien hopes.
Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long said that it has been a long time since the city stage had a reunion called the Ho Chi Minh City Stage Festival, so his unit will research and find Vietnamese historical scripts to participate. "There are many good scripts that I will choose to create the best conditions for young actors to perform difficult roles. If it is held in Ho Chi Minh City, socialized units can participate, but if it is held far away, we have to "cut our coat according to our cloth" - Meritorious Artist Kim Tu Long said.
People's Artist Hong Van revealed that Hong Van Drama Theater will invest in works to participate in the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival. She is considering the remaining two festivals because the travel expenses for the whole group to attend are very expensive.
Meritorious Artist Trinh Kim Chi also said she will find a good script to stage a play to participate in the Children's Theater Festival and the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival.

From the perspective of a public art unit, director Phan Quoc Kiet - Director of Tran Huu Trang Theater - said that after the success of the children's opera "The Kingdom of Stuffed Animals" directed by director Quynh Khoi, the theater will upgrade equipment, sound, lighting, costumes... and all creative aspects to be able to submit this work to the competition.
"For the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Festival, the theater will review some works to be able to participate. For the Capital Theater Festival, we will have to wait for the plan of the National Theater Festival. If it is too close to the time, it will be very difficult to effectively invest in artistic quality," director Phan Quoc Kiet explained.
Director and Meritorious Artist Le Nguyen Dat said: "In my opinion, the more professional competitions with different criteria will be an opportunity for theater workers to freely create and learn, exchange with each other the good, the beautiful and the unfinished. However, it is difficult for socialized units in Ho Chi Minh City to participate when competitions are held in Hanoi and the northern provinces and cities. Regarding investment and travel costs, it is necessary to calculate."
Director Le Nguyen Dat said that Sen Viet Stage, which he is in charge of, will participate in the Children's Stage Festival and the Ho Chi Minh City Stage Festival. He hopes that the Ho Chi Minh City Stage Festival will be a launch for both public and private stage units, introducing good works and roles for the people of Ho Chi Minh City to see and evaluate.

"The units have not yet invested in plays to participate in the festivals. However, the decision to participate or not depends on the units. If they have not really ensured the quality and are ready to bring their products to participate, they must choose and make appropriate decisions for their units. Each competition has its own criteria to aim for the ultimate goal of preserving and developing the theater industry" - director Le Nguyet Dat expressed.
