(CLO) According to data from the University of Florida's Election Research Lab, American voters seem to be very supportive of early voting.
Michael McDonald, a political science professor who runs the project, said data compiled by his six research labs in Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Michigan, North Carolina and Virginia showed that more than 62 million Americans had already voted in 2024 — nearly 40% of all votes cast in 2020.
Similar percentages have been reported in several battleground states, including North Carolina and Georgia, where 45% of registered voters have cast ballots in what is still a tight presidential race.

Observers say strong voter sentiment and changes in early voting rules since 2020 have fueled the trend.
“Voters are involved on both sides,” Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said Thursday on CNN. “What we just want to do is make sure we have a fair, honest and accurate process, and that’s what we’re doing.”
Observers have noted that early voting data, including turnout by gender, is difficult to interpret — for example, about 55% of women voted compared to 45% of men.
