In Da Bac district - one of the most difficult localities of Hoa Binh province, over 76% of the population are ethnic minorities, of which nearly 1,000 households do not have stable housing.

Being a poor household with extremely difficult circumstances, the 6 members of Nguyen Van Dong's family and his wife, Xa Thi Nga, in Doi village (Hien Luong commune, Da Bac district) have had to live in a temporary house that has been degraded for many years. The family has a large population and their main source of income depends on farming, so the couple never thought that one day they would be able to build a new, spacious and solid place to live.

In April 2024, Mr. Dong's family and hundreds of poor households in Da Bac district received 50 million VND in support from the local budget to build a new home. From this meaningful support, Mr. Dong and his wife made efforts to match the cost to build a solid house with a total amount of nearly 200 million VND. On the day of handing over the new house, Mr. Dong shared that without the support from the Party, the State, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, he did not know when his family would be able to build a new house. Now that he has a stable place to live, the couple will strive to work hard and be determined to escape poverty and raise their children to be educated and mature.

After more than 6 months since launching the emulation movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, districts and cities of Hoa Binh province are focusing all resources to speed up the implementation progress to complete the goal of supporting housing for 100% of poor and near-poor households by the end of 2025.

Mr. Bui Van Luyen - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hoa Binh province said that with the desire for poor households to have solid and stable houses to improve living conditions, develop production and economy, and escape poverty sustainably, the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels has consulted and assigned specific responsibilities to member organizations to mobilize cadres, members, union members and local people to join in contributing their efforts to help families in difficult circumstances to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.

Since the beginning of 2024, Hoa Binh province has received support for the temporary housing elimination fund of 43.6 billion VND, and has allocated support to build 492 new houses, with a total value of 24.6 billion VND. However, according to current statistics, there are still more than 20,000 poor households in the province, with more than 6,362 households living in temporary and dilapidated houses, of which 3,194 households are in urgent need of housing. With a high determination to complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025, Hoa Binh province has launched a 450-day peak emulation campaign to complete the "elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses" for poor households. In the context of the state budget being difficult, Hoa Binh province is focusing on mobilizing maximum social resources to support 3,194 poor households and households in difficult circumstances to build new, spacious houses that ensure the "3 hard" criteria: hard foundation, hard roof, hard walls.

Over the past 5 years, the “For the Poor” Fund at all levels in Hoa Binh province has mobilized over 99.6 billion VND; supported the construction of 1,867 new Great Unity houses and the repair of 415 Great Unity houses with a total amount of 64.4 billion VND. The Standing Committee of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee has coordinated to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for all 268 families of meritorious people and former youth volunteers in the province with a total value of 11.4 billion VND; and completed the elimination of all 200 dilapidated houses for poor households in the two communes of Hang Kia and Pa Co in Mai Chau district, with a total cost of 8 billion VND.
