They are heroes

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên27/07/2023

While carefully placing the chrysanthemums in front of the People's Police monument serving the people on Tran Nhan Tong Street, Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi, two fire prevention and fighting and rescue police officers (PCCC and CNCH) of Hanoi Police recounted that on the afternoon of August 1, 2022, receiving a fire report at the ISIS karaoke bar (Cau Giay District, Hanoi), Lieutenant Colonel Dang Anh Quan, Team Leader; Senior Lieutenant Do Duc Viet, Corporal Nguyen Dinh Phuc and their teammates arrived at the scene to put out the fire and rescue people.

After guiding 8 people out of the fire, the 3 soldiers continued to search the rooms and floors to make sure no one was trapped. However, when the 3 people reached the 4th floor, materials from the ceiling collapsed, blocking the escape route and the 3 soldiers heroically sacrificed themselves.

In recognition of the brave actions and sacrifices of the three soldiers, the President signed a decision to posthumously award the First Class Military Exploit Order; the Prime Minister issued a certificate of "Fatherland's Gratitude"; and the Minister of Public Security promoted the three soldiers to higher ranks.

The family is proud of you.

The house of martyr Dang Anh Quan is located deep in a small alley on Chua Lang Street (Dong Da District, Hanoi). For a year now, the house has lost a pillar, a son, a husband, and a respected father. Before his death, Lieutenant Colonel Quan was a gentle captain, devoted to his work and always loved his teammates. At home, he was a family man, an example for his children to follow.

The atmosphere was even more emotional as the 76th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2023) was also close to the first death anniversary of the three soldiers.

While preparing a meal for her husband, Ms. Nguyen Thu Huyen, wife of martyr Dang Anh Quan, said that in recent days she has been continuously receiving visits from agencies, organizations, and former comrades of her husband. This has helped her somewhat ease the loss of the past time.

According to Ms. Huyen, when her husband first passed away, her family life was completely disrupted, from daily life to work and children. The above pressures weighed so heavily that at times, this woman felt like she could hardly overcome them. However, thanks to the encouragement of relatives, friends and neighbors, she turned the pain into motivation to return to normal life and work.

Fire Police and Rescue Police officers of Hanoi Police placed flowers in memory of their comrades at the Traffic Police and Fire Police monument.

In front of her husband's portrait, this wife always thinks that martyr Quan is still alive and watching every step of the family. "The family and children are always proud of you, rest in peace," Ms. Huyen said emotionally.

To the neighbors, they always remember the brave, upright firefighter with a gentle smile, always respectful to everyone.

The "superman" will live forever

Also a police officer, Lieutenant Nguyen Hong Duong, an officer of the Traffic Police Team of Ha Dong District Police (Hanoi), said that martyr Do Duc Viet was not only his teammate but also his friend and close brother during their time together in high school.

Lieutenant Duong said that since he was a child, martyr Viet dreamed of becoming a firefighter. "As a boy, I was naughty and loved watching superhero movies since I was little, and superheroes often saved people, so I had this dream. When I grew up, I witnessed a few fires, saw people being saved by firefighters, I felt like they were superheroes, so I was determined to nurture my dream, hoping to become a firefighter," Lieutenant Duong could not hold back his tears when recounting what Viet once confided.

Fire and rescue police officers lay flowers in memory of their comrades.

When Viet was able to put on the firefighter uniform and "transform into a superhero to save people", Lieutenant Duong was very happy, as if it was his own joy. Lieutenant Duong said that Viet is a gentle young man with a kind heart and always has a smile on his face, but he is also an experienced young firefighter, dedicating his whole life to his profession, loved by everyone he meets.

"Viet's sacrifice demonstrated his bravery, determination, and fearlessness of danger and hardship. For Viet, the mission of saving people's lives always came first. That quality, that image, and that heart will always be remembered and remembered in the future," Lieutenant Duong choked up.

The country will not forget the name

Having just received a delegation from the Ministry of Public Security who came to visit and burn incense for martyr Phuc, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Hanh shared that it was many months after her son's sacrifice that she regained her spirit. Because her family has a tradition of Buddhism, Ms. Hanh has recently focused on researching documents and actively participating in volunteer work. The Quang Phuc vegetarian restaurant (where she and her son used to live) was given by her to an acquaintance, Ms. Pham Thi Thu Thuy, to take over and operate.

"Now, my mind is calm, not like before. At first, when I went to work, everything was fine, but when I got home, all the images of my child came flooding back. Sometimes when I burn incense for Phuc, I don't dare look at his picture," said Ms. Hanh.

Ms. Hanh said that overcoming the pain of losing a child is not easy because it is "the greatest pain in the world". However, she always thinks that her son's sacrifice has brought pride to the family, and that people across the country know and remember him, which is the motivation that helps her overcome that loss.

"If we keep living in the past, everything will remain in pain and the past will not be happy," said Ms. Hanh, adding that for nearly a year, she has been in regular contact with the two remaining families of soldiers to share their pain, encourage each other, help each other overcome to move on, live on and be proud of what the three soldiers have given to this society.

Ms. Pham Thi Thu Thuy shared that Phuc's sacrifice was a great loss for the family. However, that sacrifice brought glory, pride and the whole country will not forget. "Everyone is born, grows old and dies. Although it is death, you bring glory and the spirit of youthful enthusiasm, ready to jump into the sea of fire to save people. The image of your sacrifice has left a great meaning for young people and for society," Ms. Thuy was moved.

"They are heroes"

Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, Deputy Director of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department (C07) of the Ministry of Public Security, said that the fight against fire is always a fierce, arduous and dangerous battle. Soldiers have to work in high temperature environments, exposed to smoke and toxic gases; at risk of collapsing structures, equipment explosions, and chemical poisoning. However, during their duties, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police always aim to rescue people and property in fires as quickly as possible, prevent fires from spreading to minimize damage.

According to Mr. Khuong, it is difficult to describe the dedication and bravery of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives while performing their duties. They knew they might face danger and might have to sacrifice themselves, but they still carried out their duties and always tried their best to complete their assigned tasks excellently.

Colonel Khuong said that the three martyrs Quan, Viet and Phuc were all diligent, dedicated and devoted officers. The sacrifices of the three soldiers and previous generations of the Fire Police Force were all noble and brave sacrifices and they were all heroes. These sacrifices were extremely meaningful, demonstrating dedication and the willingness to sacrifice oneself to complete the assigned tasks, to save people and property.

According to Colonel Khuong, C07 as well as Hanoi City Police always care about and show gratitude to the families and soldiers who sacrificed, especially on July 27. On July 20, Hanoi Police held an inauguration ceremony and handed over social housing to the families of the three martyrs Quan, Viet and Phuc.

In particular, Hanoi Police supported the cost of buying houses, a total of nearly 3 billion VND/3 apartments; at the same time, units inside and outside the force gave the families basic furniture packages with a total value of over 200 million VND/apartment along with many valuable gifts so that the families can use and live immediately after receiving the apartment.

In addition, so that the soldiers will never be forgotten, next week, the People's Police Museum will receive the relics of the three martyrs Quan, Viet and Phuc for display.
