" I hope to lead the players to develop and help the team achieve more results. I not only want the team to develop in Vietnam but also in the Asian arena, so that the whole of Asia knows about the Hanoi Police Club ," coach Gong Oh-kyun shared at the new team's launch ceremony.
The Korean coach officially signed a contract with the Hanoi Police Club on the morning of November 13. He was chosen to replace coach Tran Tien Dai before round 3 of V.League 2023/2024 but has only just taken office.

Mr. Gong Oh-kyun affirmed that Hanoi Police Club is the team with the best and most complete direction, so he agreed to the offer to lead. This strategist and the new team both have the same ambition when signing the contract.
However, Mr. Gong Oh-kyun said it will take time to bring the Hanoi Police Club to a new level. He said: " I will try to train the team, but it is difficult to say how long it will take to reach Asia. It could be 1 or many years. If I set a goal of 1-2 years, the players will be under pressure and will not be able to play well. I want to let them play comfortably ."
Hanoi Police Club returned to the top flight of Vietnamese football last season. They invested heavily by bringing to Hang Day Stadium the best stars of Vietnamese football such as Nguyen Quang Hai, Vu Van Thanh, Ho Tan Tai, Phan Van Duc. The results came immediately with the 2023 V.League championship.
Mr. Gong said he did not feel pressured when taking over such a big team. Although Mr. Gong has only experience in coaching young players, he still feels comfortable working with star players.
" Being a star or not doesn't mean anything. The most important thing is how to build a suitable playing style. I don't feel pressured when working with stars ," the Korean coach expressed.
Mr. Gong Oh-kyun is known for helping U23 Vietnam reach the quarterfinals of the 2022 AFC U23 Championship. The team not only achieved good results but also demonstrated an eye-catching attacking style of play. The Hanoi Police Club has lacked its own philosophy through previous coaches and Mr. Gong is expected to convey his style to the new team.
However, Mr. Gong Oh-kyun believes that the Hanoi Police Club will choose the appropriate tactics during his first time working. He said: " Currently, the team has many national players. I will rely on that to develop the surrounding players better. I cannot talk about the current situation because I need time to monitor the players, opponents and depending on each match, come up with appropriate exercises and playing styles ."
On November 25, Coach Gong Oh-kyun will lead the new team to face HAGL in the 2023/2024 National Cup.
