Hundreds of teachers and students enthusiastically exchange and spread the art of Bài Chòi

On the afternoon of June 29, at Thanh Toan Tile Bridge Community Tourism Site (Thuy Thanh Commune, Huong Thuy Town, Thua Thien Hue Province), the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Huong Thuy Town coordinated to organize a Bai Choi performance exchange program for teachers and students from schools in the area. This is also the first activity to be integrated into the "Countryside Market on Festival Day", responding to Hue Festival 2024.

Accordingly, the Bai Choi singing exchange program attracted more than 200 teachers and students from secondary schools, primary and secondary schools: Thuy Thanh, Thuy Duong, Thuy Phuong, Thuy Luong, Thuy Phu, Phu Bai, Thuy Chau, Thuy Tan and artists from the Bai Choi Club of Thuy Thanh commune.

At the exchange, the participating teams demonstrated their ability to perform Bài Chòi through 4 topics: dramatization; singing according to newly written lyrics about local history, environmental sanitation; call-and-response singing and 2 exchange singing schools...

Although not as competitive as a contest, the performances of teachers, students and performing artists are all elaborately staged, with profound and witty lyrics..., the content focuses on praising the Party, beloved Uncle Ho; love for the homeland; the heroic fighting tradition of the nation; preserving, maintaining and promoting the artistic value of Bài Chòi; promoting the good moral qualities of people towards truth, goodness, beauty... Thereby enriching the activities serving people and tourists at the "Countryside Market Festival".

The performances by teachers, students and artists are elaborately staged, with profound and witty lyrics.

Bài Chòi is a diverse art form combining music, poetry, acting, painting and literature... expressed in the form of Bài Chòi playing festivals and Bài Chòi performances. Bài Chòi art is a popular cultural activity in village communities in many villages in the Central region, popular in the provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan to meet the entertainment and art enjoyment needs of the community.

With its values, on December 7, 2017, in Jeju (Korea), the 12th Conference of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage officially issued a Resolution to include "The Art of Bài Chòi in Central Vietnam" in the List of Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Recently, Huong Thuy Town (Thua Thien Hue) has been known as a locality that is doing a good job of transmitting, preserving and spreading the art of Bai Choi. In particular, Thuy Thanh Commune is a locality that has developed this art form quite strongly and has many famous artisans.

In addition to Tet holidays, Bài Chòi is also regularly held in cultural and tourism events of the town as well as every weekend at Thanh Toan Tile Bridge night market of Thuy Thanh commune, thereby becoming one of the unique and attractive cultural tourism products.
