The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Complaints Board decided to maintain the penalty imposed by the previous disciplinary board on Nguyen Van Quyet. Thus, Hanoi FC's appeal was unsuccessful and the captain of the capital team must serve an 8-match ban.
Van Quyet was fined for physically abusing the referee in the match between Topenland Binh Dinh and Hanoi FC in round 7 of V-League 2023.
At the end of the match, some Hanoi FC players stayed on the field to argue with assistant referee Nguyen Le Nguyen Thanh. Van Quyet came to intervene. The match report said that the Hanoi FC captain had a collision with the assistant referee. Referee Nguyen Manh Hai gave Van Quyet a red card.

The situation that made Hanoi players angry was when Quan Van Chuan fouled Rafaelson. Mr. Nguyen Manh Hai blew the whistle outside the penalty area.
However, assistant Nguyen Le Nguyen Thanh, in a more favorable position, advised referee Nguyen Manh Hai. Then Topenlan Binh Dinh was awarded a penalty.
After the match, Van Quyet called to apologize to assistant referee Nguyen Le Nguyen Thanh. Mr. Nguyen Thanh accepted the apology. In addition, Van Quyet also made a report explaining to the club. The team said that Van Quyet's reaction was wrong. This striker needs to learn from experience and control himself. However, Hanoi FC said that the 8-match penalty was too harsh and sent a complaint to VFF.
The unchanged penalty means Hanoi will lose a key player for a long time. Van Quyet will have to sit out at least until the end of July, which is the end of the first leg. Hanoi FC is currently second in the rankings. According to VTC News, the capital team may have to consider finding a quality foreign player to replace Van Quyet.
