Hanoi announces format structure and sample questions for 10th grade exams

The 2025-2026 school year is the first year that the 10th grade entrance exam will be conducted according to the 2018 General Education Program. The number of subjects and the structure of the exam are of particular interest to teachers, students of the 2K10 class and parents.

After a period of research, consideration, and careful consultation with experts and teachers, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training officially announced the format structure and sample questions for the exam subjects, including: math; literature, English, history and geography, natural sciences, information technology, and civic education.

The exam format structure is the basis for building a question bank and creating exam questions - Hanoi High School Entrance Exam according to the 2018 General Education Program.

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training requests that the Heads of the Departments of Education and Training in the city inform all staff, teachers, and students of secondary schools about the above content; direct the professional teams of the schools to research and apply the test format structure suitable for each subject, in which attention should be paid to objective test formats for 9th grade students to get acquainted.

Along with that, increase the test formats including: multiple choice test (with 4 options, choose 1 correct answer); true-false test (each question has 4 options, at each option choose true or false); short answer test.

Schools should strengthen the construction of question banks and test matrices according to the requirements of the subject program; prepare 9th grade students to get acquainted with the orientation of the 10th grade entrance exam according to the new program; encourage schools to build digital libraries of test questions, surveys, and share with local educational institutions to exchange and support the effective implementation of testing and assessment methods and forms.

In addition, research units must ensure that the use of materials in tests and surveys is in accordance with regulations.

For literature, avoid using texts and excerpts learned in textbooks as test materials to assess reading comprehension and writing skills in periodic tests to overcome the situation where students only memorize or copy content from available documents.

The announcement of the format structure and sample questions right before the new school year 2024 - 2025 by the Department of Education and Training is considered very timely, helping 9th grade students as well as staff and teachers of schools in the city have specific directions to organize teaching, learning, and effective review, preparing well for the entrance exam to grade 10 in the school year 2025 - 2026.
