2025 is the first year that 9th graders nationwide will take part in the 10th grade high school entrance exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. To prepare well for this, the Ministry of Education and Training has drafted a draft of the admission regulations. The draft is currently being widely consulted by the Ministry of Education and Training, with the deadline for receiving comments being December 18, 2024.
The Ministry of Education and Training said that the regulations on secondary school and high school admissions will be issued before December 31, 2024, after synthesizing and carefully analyzing comments on the exam plan to ensure the most suitable one for students.
According to the draft, high school admission (10th grade entrance exam) is organized in one of three ways: selection, entrance exam, or a combination of selection and selection.
With the admission method, the basis is the training and learning results of the years of general education program at secondary level or continuing education program at secondary level of the admission subject.
With the entrance exam method, the number of subjects is 3 subjects with math, literature and 1 third subject or a combination exam.
The third exam is selected from among the subjects that are assessed by scores in the general education program at the secondary level. The exam is a combination of subjects selected from among the subjects that are assessed by scores in the general education program at the secondary level.
The Departments of Education and Training are allowed to choose one of two options. The Ministry requires that the departments must change the third subject every year to achieve the goal of comprehensive education in the basic education stage. The time for localities to announce the third subject is before March 31 every year.
63 Departments of Education and Training have sent comments on the contents of the regulations and 60/63 comments agreed with the plan of 3 subjects for entrance exams to grade 10 high school.
Expressing his opinion on the third exam subject - the 10th grade exam, teacher Nguyen Xuan Khang, Chairman of the Marie Curie Education System (Hanoi) said: the third exam subject in the 10th grade exam should be unified nationwide and stable in the long term; the best solution is to organize exams in 3 fixed subjects including math, literature and foreign language (mainly English). The reason is that at high school level, English is one of the 8 compulsory subjects for all students. On the other hand, Conclusion No. 91 of the Politburo requires gradually making English the second language in schools.
Many parents and teachers expressed: if the Ministry of Education and Training still stipulates that the third exam subject is not fixed, it should be announced at the beginning of the school year so that schools can arrange appropriate educational plans. For the 2024-2025 school year, the Departments of Education and Training can inform about the third exam subject as soon as the Ministry of Education and Training officially announces the enrollment regulations or at the latest after the end of the first semester, because the school year time frame of localities is unified.
