Ha Giang: Meo Vac District promotes the role of Prestigious People

Through the form of dramatization, Meo Vac District has created a skit to talk about the role of Prestigious People in the community at the 1st Law Competition on Ethnic Affairs in 2024 organized by the Ethnic Affairs Committee of Ha Giang province in early October.

As a mountainous border district of Ha Giang province, Meo Vac has a natural area of ​​57,668.61 hectares, including 18 administrative units at commune and town levels, with 17 ethnic groups living together, of which ethnic minorities account for 97.64% of the district's population.

Meo Vac district always determines that Prestigious people have a great influence in the community, are an important bridge to help connect the Party's will with the people's hearts, and strengthen the people's trust in the leadership of the Party and the State in the locality. Therefore, the district pays special attention to and directs villages, hamlets, and residential groups to carry out well the work of electing typical Prestigious People; and fully implement policies for Prestigious People.

Currently, the district has 199 prestigious people who are Party cell secretaries; village and hamlet chiefs; retired cadres; village elders; clan leaders; religious dignitaries and others. These are people who are trusted by the people, have great influence in the community and the ability to rally the people.

Over the years, the prestigious people have actively participated in building the political system at the grassroots level and the great national unity bloc. Many prestigious people have made practical contributions to the socio-economic development program and the building of the Party, government, and Fatherland Front at all levels. In the field of maintaining political security, prestigious people have actively participated in the movement "All people protect national security", detected and denounced crimes, and participated in grassroots mediation teams.

Mobilize people to comply with the law, not to participate in illegal proselytizing, not to listen to bad people who entice or incite them to commit illegal acts. Thereby, contributing to stabilizing political security and maintaining social order and safety in residential areas.

Mr. Vang No Sinh, Village Chief, Prestigious Person of Sang Chai B Village, Lung Pu Commune, Meo Vac District, propagates the Party and State's policies and guidelines to local people through articles in the Ethnic and Development Newspaper.

In addition, the team of Prestigious People also actively develops effective economic models; guides and helps other families develop their economy. Propaganda and mobilize children, relatives in the family, and villagers to actively change the structure of crops and livestock, and apply scientific and technical advances in production.

In particular, in implementing the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period, Phase I from 2021-2025 (National Target Program 1719), the role of Prestigious People is further demonstrated by actively mobilizing people to participate in donating land, contributing working days and materials to build infrastructure with the motto "The State and the people work together", contributing to effectively mobilizing resources from the people to build public welfare works such as schools, classrooms, cultural houses; canals, irrigation dams; repairing and upgrading traffic routes, etc.

The team of Prestigious People is also the core force in propagating and mobilizing people in residential areas to build great national unity, carry out patriotic emulation movements, maintain environmental sanitation and promote learning in the locality.

Mr. Vang No Sinh, Village Chief, a prestigious person of Sang Chai B Village, Lung Pu Commune, said: His family has 4 children, the oldest child is studying pedagogy at Hung Vuong University and is currently working in the locality. The second and third children are studying at the Foreign Language School - Thai Nguyen University. The fourth child is studying at the Town High School.

“My family has always determined that, no matter how difficult it is, we are determined to encourage and create conditions for our children to study at the highest level according to their abilities. As a prestigious person in the locality, I always encourage families, as well as students in the village to continuously study and improve their cultural knowledge so that they can contribute to building the community in the future. In the period from 2021 to 2024, Sang Chai B village with 112 households and nearly 700 people currently has 11 children studying at universities and colleges,” Mr. Sinh shared.

Mr. Vang Mi Phu (the eldest son of Mr. Vang No Sinh, Village Chief, a prestigious person in Sang Chai B village) is the first teacher of the 9x generation of Sang Chai B village.

In addition to promoting education promotion activities for households in the village, in recent times, Mr. Vang No Sinh has actively participated with commune and village officials in promoting and mobilizing people to live hygienically, move livestock barns away from home, eliminate bad customs in weddings and funerals, implement population policies and family planning well, and mobilize families to send their children to school at the right age according to regulations; preserve and promote the good cultural identity of the nation.

“In Sang Chai B now, when families have weddings or funerals, they organize them quickly, not as long and expensive as before. This has contributed to building a civilized lifestyle in the residential area,” Mr. Vang No Sinh shared.

Talking to reporters of the Ethnic and Development Newspaper, Mr. Nong Van Ngay, Head of the Ethnic Department of Meo Vac district, informed: In order to promote the role of Prestigious People in the community, the department has proactively advised the district to effectively implement the regime and policies for Prestigious People in the area. In 2024, the district has distributed newspapers to Prestigious People, including the Ethnic and Development Newspaper. Regularly organize visits and give gifts on the occasion of Lunar New Year and holidays of ethnic minorities; visit Prestigious People who are sick, ill, or whose families are facing difficulties or natural disasters.

At the same time, promote training, fostering, equipping prestigious people with knowledge about ethnicity, religion, policies of the Party and State; foster professional skills in propaganda, mobilization, and reconciliation work at the grassroots level. Thereby, prestigious people can promote their core role, set good examples in the community, mobilize people to help each other develop the economy, reduce poverty; eliminate bad customs; preserve and promote good cultural identity; create consensus, build united, peaceful, and developed villages.
