Cham art exchange and performance at Cham tower: More products to serve tourists
The Department of Culture and Sports organized a Cham art exchange and performance program at the Twin Towers and Banh It Towers from July 5 to 10 with the participation of the Ninh Thuan Province Cham Folk Culture Art Troupe. This is a step to create momentum for the Culture sector to create new products to serve tourists.
Binh Dinh province currently has 8 clusters/14 Cham towers, which are a unique cultural tourism resource. In recent years, from many different sources, the province has invested in renovating, embellishing, upgrading infrastructure and facilities to preserve Cham towers, aiming to serve tourism.
According to Mr. Bui Tinh, Director of the Provincial Museum, organizing additional Cham art exchange and performance programs will both improve the effectiveness of communication and promotion of relics and create more products for tourists to have more experiences when visiting Cham towers in the province.

During the days of the Cham art performance at the Twin Towers and Banh It Tower, there were many locals and tourists coming to watch. Ms. Do Thanh Ngoc, a tourist from Ninh Binh province, shared: “This is the first time my family traveled to Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh to visit many beautiful relics and landscapes, of which everyone in my family loved the Banh It Tower relic. At the time, the Cham Folk Culture Art Troupe of Ninh Thuan province performed with many special performances, making my family feel lucky. Before leaving, my family has made an appointment to return to Quy Nhon - Binh Dinh to discover more interesting things that we have only heard about.”
Not only tourists from afar, but also local people are very excited. Mr. Tran Minh Phu, in Dong Da ward, Quy Nhon city, expressed: “My house is near the Twin Towers. When we heard about the Cham art performance program here, my family immediately invited each other to come and see. Binh Dinh has many beautiful Cham towers, other provinces such as Ninh Thuan, Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen also have Cham towers and they often organize art performances to serve tourists, but we don't have many. I hope that in the future, at the Cham towers of Binh Dinh, there will be more art performances for people and tourists to enjoy."
Cham artists from Ninh Thuan province perform without using the form of “theatricalization” but perform with a natural style, close to real life through dance performances, singing Cham folk songs bustling with the harmonious sounds of Ghinang drums, Paranung drums, Saranai trumpets, along with the image of Cham girls weaving brocade and making pottery, immersing the audience in a fascinating cultural space.
Artisan Van Quang Phu Doan, Head of the Cham Folk Culture Art Troupe of Ninh Thuan Province, said: “Along with regular performances at Po Klong Garai Tower (Ninh Thuan Province), we also tour many provinces and cities. This is the first time we have come to Binh Dinh to promote and exchange Cham culture. Hopefully, Binh Dinh and Ninh Thuan will become more closely connected to preserve and promote the Champa cultural heritage.”
Initially, the organization of Cham art performances at the Twin Towers and Banh It Towers has been positively received. In the future, the Department of Culture and Sports will organize many other activities at the Cham towers. Mr. Ta Xuan Chanh, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, said: In the long term, the Department will invite Cham folk artists from Ninh Thuan province to Binh Dinh to teach performance programs to the Cham H'roi people of Van Canh district to have a local performing force. We will also advise the Provincial People's Committee to implement the Project on socialization of management and exploitation of the Cham tower relic system, build Cham art performance products, Binh Dinh cuisine, food and beverage services, entertainment, etc. to further promote the value of the Cham towers associated with the development of cultural tourism.
