Dissolution of the National Committee on Climate Change

The Prime Minister has just signed Decision No. 1694/QD-TTg dated December 31, 2024 on dissolving the National Committee on Climate Change.


Specifically, the Prime Minister decided to dissolve the National Committee on Climate Change established in Decision No. 43/QD-TTg dated January 9, 2012 and amended and supplemented in Decision No. 321/QD-TTg dated March 13, 2017 of the Prime Minister.

* According to Decision No. 43/QD-TTg dated January 9, 2012, the National Committee on Climate Change has the function of advising and assisting the Government and the Prime Minister in researching, proposing, directing, coordinating, urging the resolution of important, inter-sectoral and inter-sectoral tasks, national programs and strategies on climate change; directing and coordinating the implementation of national strategies and programs on climate change; directing and organizing the implementation of international cooperation on climate change.

The National Committee on Climate Change is responsible for researching and proposing to the Government and the Prime Minister directions and solutions to address important, interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral climate change response activities.

The National Committee on Climate Change assists the Prime Minister in directing, coordinating and harmonizing ministries, ministerial-level agencies and government agencies in resolving important, inter-sectoral issues, national strategies and programs on climate change, green growth programs, energy-saving and efficient use programs, greenhouse gas emission reduction programs through combating deforestation and forest degradation and other programs related to climate change response; directing, coordinating, monitoring and urging the implementation of strategies and programs on climate change to ensure effectiveness, synchronization and unity; directing and organizing the implementation of international cooperation activities, mobilizing funding, negotiating to join treaties and international organizations on climate change; negotiating and organizing the implementation of international cooperation projects and plans on climate change.

On December 21, 2021, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 2157/QD-TTg establishing the National Steering Committee for the implementation of Vietnam's commitments at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Steering Committee). The Steering Committee is an inter-sectoral coordination organization, performing the function of assisting the Prime Minister in researching, directing, and coordinating the resolution of important, inter-sectoral tasks related to the implementation of Vietnam's commitments at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

The Steering Committee directs and coordinates to help the Government and the Prime Minister implement Vietnam's commitments at the COP26 Conference; assists the Government and the Prime Minister in strengthening coordination of climate change response activities among ministries, sectors, localities and cooperation between Vietnam and international organizations, development partners and other countries; directs the review and synchronous completion of mechanisms, policies, laws, strategies, planning, and promotes administrative procedure reform to create a favorable environment, proactively take advantage of opportunities for financial and technological support and attract investment capital flows into infrastructure to respond to climate change, transform development models and convert energy...
