According to records, farmers in the Central Highlands provinces have begun the pepper harvest with optimism as prices show many positive signs, increasing compared to the same period last year. Although erratic weather has reduced output and pepper has not ripened evenly, the positive prices have helped farmers hope for a favorable crop.
According to a new report from Ptexim, Vietnam’s total pepper export volume in 2024 is 250,600 tons, indicating abundant supply. However, the harvest has been continuously decreasing over the past 3-4 years due to the shrinking planting area, as farmers choose to switch to more profitable crops such as coffee and durian.
Experts predict that the global pepper supply will not be enough to meet the increasing demand, causing prices to increase sharply from the beginning of 2025, opening up development opportunities for the "black gold" production and trading industry.
