Vegetable prices are cheap as if given away after Tet

The price of green vegetables is less than half of what it was at the same time many years ago. Many sellers are sad because they did not earn 100,000 VND in the whole market session.

Ms. Tran Lieu (a trader at My Dinh market, Hanoi) told An Ninh Thu Do: "Never before have green vegetables been as cheap after Tet as this year."

According to Ms. Lieu, this year, the weather was favorable, there were not many long cold spells, so vegetables grew well. After storm No. 3 in September 2024, vegetable growers started to sow new crops to prepare for Tet but did not expect vegetable prices to be so cheap.

According to a survey by An Ninh Thu Do reporters at traditional markets, the prices of many types of green vegetables are cheap as if given away. Kohlrabi is 10,000 VND/4 roots; cabbage is 5,000 VND/kg; green mustard, chrysanthemum greens, and celery are all priced at 10,000 VND/kg; watercress is 20,000 VND/bunch; cauliflower is 15,000 VND/large; tomatoes are 8,000 VND/kg; enoki mushrooms are 15,000 VND/package; pineapple is 15,000-20,000 VND/fruit...

This price is only about 50% compared to the same period in previous years, even lower than in early December 2024 of the lunar calendar.

Pork prices unexpectedly increase after Tet
Unlike previous years, pork prices at traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City are currently increasing slightly, about 7,000-8,000 VND/kg more expensive than before Tet, even though the peak consumption period for Tet has passed.

Traders at Phu Nhuan Market and Ba Chieu Market (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) shared on Tri Thuc - Znews that in the days before Tet, pork prices had increased due to high demand from people. However, up to now, pork prices at the market have not shown any signs of cooling down.

Accordingly, the price of pork belly at traditional markets is at 170,000-180,000 VND/kg, while baby back ribs are around 200,000 VND/kg.

Mr. Nguyen Kim Doan, Vice President of the Dong Nai Province Livestock Association, explained: usually in previous years, pork prices would go down after the Lunar New Year holiday. However, in reality, the pig farming industry is affected by the epidemic, so the quantity supplied to the market is still very limited.

Premium durian for only 40,000 VND/kg

In recent years, in stores, the price of premium grade A durian has skyrocketed to 160,000-250,000 VND/kg if bought whole. Durian pulp costs 400,000-850,000 VND/kg depending on the time.

From a cheap fruit, the "king of fruits" has become a high-end product with an expensive price, not every family can afford to buy it.

However, during the Tet holiday, at online fruit markets in Hanoi, durian suddenly appeared at super cheap prices.

Notably, traders advertise that these are all premium grade A goods for export to China, and are now being sold at prices ranging from 350,000-390,000 VND/box of 3-4 fruits weighing about 8-10kg.

This is the price that the shop owners only sell by the box, not by the weight. The delivery price within Hanoi city is about 10,000-35,000 VND/order.

Vietnamese rice price breaks through $400/ton mark, lowest in Asia

After a series of days of being the highest and most expensive among the top rice exporting countries in the world, Vietnamese rice prices have fallen sharply.

According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), on February 7, the export price of 5% broken rice decreased to 399 USD/ton. Accordingly, Vietnamese rice is currently the cheapest in Asia, being 32 USD/ton lower than the same type of rice from Thailand, 14 USD/ton lower than Indian rice and 5 USD/ton lower than Pakistani rice.

This rarely happens, because in the world market, Vietnamese rice is in the same segment and quality as Thai rice. This product of our country mainly competes with Thai products, and the price is always higher than that of Indian and Pakistani products.

The price of gerbera daisies 'jumps' on God of Wealth day in Ho Chi Minh City

On January 10 (God of Wealth's day) this year, the price of gerbera daisies increased many times higher than usual.

Customers buying a bouquet of 5 flowers to worship the God of Wealth had to pay up to 100,000 VND, a price 4-5 times higher than normal days.

Supply decreases, snow mai flowers continue to sell out after Tet

After the Lunar New Year, while the prices of many types of flowers gradually cooled down, snow mai flowers became the focus of the flower market. With their elegant beauty, slender branches and snow-white flowers, snow mai flowers are not only popular during Tet but also continue to sell out after the holiday.

According to Health and Life, according to traders, the price of snow mai flowers after Tet tends to increase due to reduced supply but high demand.

Ms. Hanh - owner of a flower shop in Hanoi - shared: "Snow mai is still very popular after Tet. There are still 2 types for customers to choose from: wild snow mai and company snow mai. Wild snow mai costs 100,000 VND/bunch, company snow mai costs 180,000 VND/bunch".

Ms. Hanh said that compared to before Tet, snow mai flowers are 50,000-70,000 VND/bunch more expensive. The reason is that after Tet, the supply is scarcer because many people are still on vacation and have not returned to work.
