Recorded in localities today, the amount of rice arriving is slow, buying and selling is slow. In Lap Vo (Dong Thap), the amount of rice arriving is small, warehouses are buying slowly. In Sa Dec (Dong Thap), the amount is slow, rice of all kinds is stable.

At retail markets, rice prices of all kinds remained unchanged compared to yesterday. In the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices today remained unchanged compared to yesterday. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), currently 5% standard rice is at 399 USD/ton; 25% broken rice is at 371 USD/ton; 100% broken rice is at 313 USD/ton.

According to the latest update from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Trade in January 2025, Vietnam exported about 500,000 tons of rice, earning 308 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2024, the export volume increased slightly by 1%, but the value decreased by 10.4%.

The main reason for this price drop is that India has lifted its rice export restrictions after 2 years of temporary closure, increasing supply in the international market and creating downward pressure on prices in the market for other exporting countries, including Vietnam.

On the other hand, demand from Vietnam’s major import markets such as the Philippines and Indonesia is also slowing down. These two countries have accumulated enough rice reserves for 2024 and are now waiting for prices to fall further before considering additional imports.
