This is the opinion of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Education and Training (Ministry of Education and Training) at the conference to summarize the 2022-2023 school year and deploy key tasks for the 2023-2024 school year in the higher education sector, on the afternoon of August 26. Ms. Thuy asked schools to take note to adjust their plans in the following years.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of Department of Education and Training (Ministry of Education and Training).
In 2023, out of a total of 1,002,100 candidates taking the high school graduation exam, 660,258 are registered for admission, accounting for 65.9%. The total number of wishes this year is 3,396,325, higher than the 3,098,730 of last year.
The number of candidates admitted to their first choice is 49.1% of the total number of candidates registered for admission. Candidates admitted to their first 3 choices account for 74.9% and those admitted to their first 5 choices account for 85.1%. On average, 1 candidate is eligible to be admitted to 2.76 choices.
Thus, compared to 2022, the number of candidates admitted in the first round on the system in 2023 increased by 7.9%.
Regarding the early admission results, the Director of the Department of Education and Training added that 32.2% of early admitted candidates chose to register their first choice. Only 30.48% of candidates were admitted directly according to the immediate admission confirmation regulations.
"This data shows that the process and regulations are helping candidates have a better chance of being admitted to their priority choices, rather than through early admission and direct admission," said Ms. Thuy.
The department head pointed out that one of the reasons for this is that this year, there are still schools with too many complicated admission methods and plans, many places have not ensured fairness, the allocation of quotas is not reasonable, making it difficult for candidates and the system. Many schools that conduct early admissions cannot predict virtual candidates .
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Hoang Minh Son, Deputy Minister of Education and Training, assessed that the past school year had seen positive changes in the field of higher education. The results achieved in the 2022 school year are a step forward for the upcoming school year.
