Many experts warned like that at a consultation session exclusively for parents within the framework of the 2024 admissions and career counseling program with the theme "Choosing a school with your child", which took place this morning, April 21.
As difficult as failing university
Sharing with parents, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao - Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, said that 12th grade students are facing important exams, the most important decision of their lives is choosing a career, a school to pursue after high school.
If you choose the right and suitable one, it will help you study comfortably, confidently, passionately, and achieve the necessary standards and qualities to prepare for life and establish a career.

According to Professor Bao, recently parents have been paying more attention to their children's studies, accompanying them more in decisions about choosing majors, choosing schools, and taking exams.
"One of the important reasons is that nowadays it is as difficult as failing a university entrance exam. I dare say that all 12th graders will somehow get into a university, unless they don't want to go to university. Therefore, deciding which major and which school to study must be an optimal decision," Mr. Bao emphasized.
According to Mr. Bao, to make the best decision, candidates and parents need to solve multi-variable equations with many unknowns (talents, abilities, qualities, characteristics, interests, family circumstances, etc.). The development of the domestic and foreign labor market changes rapidly and has many uncertain steps. Finally, how to choose a good, reputable university with strengths in training the major you choose or not.

"Finding a compromise between the above factors is a difficult and challenging decision. Currently, many parents have children preparing to enter university but do not understand the admission process.
Don't let your children fail the university entrance exam or lose opportunities because they don't understand the rules of the game. Parents who understand their children and their family's circumstances must guide their children and help them make the right decisions, without imposing or doing it for them," Mr. Bao noted.
What should parents pay attention to at this time?

According to Dr. Nguyen Manh Hung - chief specialist of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), the ministry has directed high schools to review information on priority candidates to ensure that students who have passed the exam but are mistakenly selected for the wrong priority candidates fail.
Mr. Hung reminded parents: "Currently, many universities consider high school transcripts. The Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that no later than May 31, all candidates will be given an account to register for admission. Parents need to remind their children to review their academic results, so that when the ministry provides these academic results to universities, the information is accurate. If there are any errors, candidates need to immediately notify the school for correction."
From April 24 to 26, the Ministry of Education and Training will provide accounts to 12th grade students. Candidates will use this account throughout the process of registering for the high school graduation exam, registering for university admission and later enrolling. Candidates should pay attention to the security of their accounts.
Candidates register from May 2 to 10 to register for the exam subjects used for both high school graduation and university admission purposes. On July 17, the ministry will announce the results of the high school graduation exam.
This year's application period is reduced to 13 days.

Regarding university admissions this year, Mr. Hung said that there will be mainly minor technical adjustments to ensure optimal selection. All registration processes will be online.
Candidates can register for many wishes, in which wish 1 is the highest wish and can only be admitted to one wish.
This year's registration period has been shortened to 13 days (from July 18 to 30). From July 31 to August 26, candidates will pay the registration fee according to the region within the prescribed time. Therefore, candidates and parents need to pay attention to which region they are in to pay the registration fee on time. On August 19, schools will officially announce the results of the admission.
Candidates applying for health sciences and teacher training majors need to pay attention to the minimum admission score announced by the Ministry of Education and Training.
"In addition to the enrollment plan, candidates need to learn about the enrollment regulations announced by the schools. Candidates need to carefully study the secondary criteria that the schools stipulate in the enrollment. It is especially important to note that the enrollment registration process is carried out on the ministry's system within the prescribed time frame. After the time limit, the system will move from one stage to another, so it cannot be done. Candidates must complete the entire enrollment registration process on the online system," Mr. Hung noted.
