The friendly match between Japan and Thailand took place at the Japan National Stadium. Both teams allowed most of their players to play, so they did not field their strongest lineups from the start.
The home team showed their superiority early on when they took control of the game after the opening whistle. In the 3rd minute, Japan had a chance to open the score. Junya Ito dribbled skillfully in the penalty area but his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Patiwat.
Four minutes later, Ryotaro Ito dribbled down the middle and shot. The ball went past Patiwat's arm but went just outside the post.
In the 10th minute, Hosoya got past the Thai defender but once again the away team's goalkeeper made timely judgment to come out and block.

The Japanese team played aggressively. The ball was almost exclusively on the Thai team's side of the field. Coach Masatada Ishii instructed his players to play from home, but they had a hard time getting past the high-pressing Japanese formation.
However, the first half ended without any goals. Junya Ito had two favorable situations but both shots were inaccurate. In addition, Hosoya was very active in shooting but could not convert the opportunities.
In the second half, the Japanese team sent their key players onto the field. The increased quality of personnel meant that their coordination and finishing were also more effective.
In the 50th minute, Junya Ito passed the ball to a Thai player. Ao Tanaka quickly finished to open the score.
In the 66th minute, Thailand had the first notable situation. However, Supachok's shot went over the bar despite receiving the ball in a favorable position.
Just 6 minutes later, Japan doubled the gap. Minamino shot comfortably in the penalty area. The away team's goalkeeper blocked the ball but it went to Nakamura and this player easily kicked the rebound into the net.
In the 74th minute, the score was raised to 3-0. Ritsu Doan took a free kick from the left wing for Hosoya to head. Elias Dolah raised his foot to block but it turned into an own goal.
In the remaining time, the Japanese team scored two more goals thanks to Kawamura and Minamino. Coach Hajime Moriyasu and his team won 5-0.
