The Vietnamese women's volleyball team opened the 19th ASIAD with an easy 3-0 win over Nepal, in which the number 1 female striker Tran Thi Thanh Thuy only played in the first half, before being allowed to rest in the next two halves to conserve energy for the "big match" with South Korea on October 1.
At the start of the match, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet launched the starting lineup including captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Doan Thi Lam Oanh, Tran Tu Linh and libero Nguyen Khanh Dang.
Against an opponent Nepal who was much weaker in terms of physique, technique and experience, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team easily won the first half with a score of 25-4. This was the half where captain Thanh Thuy only scored 2 points and mainly passed the ball to her teammates.
In the next 2 rounds, coach Tuan Kiet pulled out key players Thanh Thuy, Kieu Trinh, and Tran Tu Linh to sit on the bench, but the Vietnamese women's volleyball team still easily won 2 more matches with scores of 25-16 and 25-13 respectively.
This easy 3-0 victory was like a gentle warm-up for the Vietnamese women's volleyball team, before Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates entered the important match with Korea at 10:30 in Hangzhou (9:30 in Vietnam) on October 1.
