"Swimmer" Trinh Thi Bich Nhu was the most impressive athlete when she won a "hat-trick" of gold medals.
In the afternoon of June 7, Bich Nhu excellently finished first in the women's 50m freestyle event, disabled category S6-SB5, with a time of 37 seconds 63.
Her results far surpassed the two Indonesian athletes who finished after her, Siti Alfiah (who won silver, with a time of 41 seconds 76) and Riyanti Riyanti (who won bronze, with a time of 42 seconds 62).
In the morning of the same day, Bich Nhu also won 2 gold medals with the results of 41 seconds 50 and 1 minute 51 seconds 77 respectively in two competitions in the 50m butterfly swimming category S6 and 100m breaststroke swimming category SB5 for women, at the same time setting 2 new records of the congress in these events.
Adding the gold medal in the women's 200m medley SM6 category won the day before, the veteran athlete currently playing for Ho Chi Minh City has completed the "championship pocker" at the 12th ASEAN Para Games.
Bich Nhu's teammate, "swimmer" Vi Thi Hang also won her 4th gold medal at this congress in the women's 50m freestyle S7 category, with a time of 36 seconds 46, far surpassing the runner-up, athlete Changtha Thoeun of the host country Cambodia (51 seconds 71).
On the morning of June 7, Vi Thi Hang also won a gold medal in the 100m breaststroke, SB6 category, with a time of 1 minute 51 seconds 41. She also set 2 new records of the congress in these competitions.
In the men's 50m freestyle race, category S6 swimmer Le Tien Dat won the gold medal with the fastest time (33 seconds 29). The silver medal was won by Filipino athlete Gary Adornado Bejino (33 seconds 49) and the bronze medal was won by athlete Aekkarin Noithat (Thailand) with a time of 34 seconds 25.
Thus, this is also a "double" gold medal for this athlete, when on the morning of June 7, he also won first place and set a record for the congress in the men's 100m breaststroke, SB5 category (1 minute 33 seconds 69).
The remaining new record belongs to Pham Thanh Dat, when he entered the water in the 50m butterfly event for the S8-SB7 disabled category with a time of 30 seconds 25.
In addition, the list of Vietnamese swimming athletes who put their names on the "golden board" of the congress also includes Nguyen Thi Sa Ri (women's 100m breaststroke, SB4 class); Danh Hoa (men's 50m freestyle, S4-SB3 class) and the men's swimming team (including Vo Thanh Tung, Danh Hoa, Do Thanh Hai and Le Tien Dat) in the mixed relay event.
