Recently, the provincial Red Cross (RC) at all levels has built a model of volunteer teams providing first aid for traffic accidents in localities. The model has helped save many lives, contributing to reducing the pain caused by traffic accidents.
Established in 2009, the Kim Son Ward Traffic Accident First Aid Team (Dong Trieu Town) has 5 members. The ward runs along National Highway 18A, with many roads intersecting residential areas. There are Kim Son Industrial Park, urban areas, and the town's Continuing Education and Training Center, so the traffic volume is high, especially during rush hour, with a high risk of traffic accidents.
Ms. Tran Thi Hoa, Captain of the Kim Son Ward Traffic Accident First Aid Volunteer Team, said: The team arranges 1 volunteer in each residential area with a major road, so that when there is a traffic accident, they can participate in first aid and inform other members to come and help. From the beginning of 2023 until now, the team has participated in first aid for 12 traffic accident cases, of which 3 cases were transferred to the Town Medical Center for emergency treatment, and there were no deaths.
Established in 2017, the Cam Binh Ward Traffic Accident First Aid Volunteer Team (Cam Pha City) has 8 members working in many different jobs: Youth Union cadres, ward medical staff, motorbike taxi drivers, freelance workers...
Mr. Dao Tuan Linh, Chairman of the Ward Red Cross Association, Captain of the Cam Binh Ward Traffic Accident First Aid Volunteer Team, said: Volunteers working as motorbike taxi drivers are on duty at traffic intersections. When an accident occurs, they will report it to the group's zalo. Other volunteers immediately arrive at the scene with medical equipment such as cotton, bandages, gauze, splints, etc. Since its establishment, the Team has provided first aid to dozens of traffic accident cases; since the beginning of 2023, it has provided first aid to 3 traffic accident cases.
Starting from helping traffic accident victims to receive timely first aid, reducing the risk of death, in recent years, the Provincial Red Cross Association has built and expanded the model of traffic accident first aid volunteer teams in localities in the province. According to the Provincial Red Cross Association, the province currently has 22 traffic accident first aid volunteer teams, with a total of 147 volunteers. The localities that have established many traffic accident first aid volunteer teams are: Dong Trieu town (9 teams); Quang Yen town (3 teams); Van Don district (3 teams)...
Mr. Vu Hong Hai, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Association, said: The Association develops plans and directs all levels of the association to strengthen propaganda, innovate content, diversify forms, and suit the subjects, localities, and residents; integrate propaganda on traffic safety with the theme of each year. In 2022, the traffic accident first aid volunteer teams participated in first aid at the scene of 120 traffic accidents, helping to transport 172 victims to hospitals and emergency medical centers in a timely manner.
Implementing the Traffic Safety Year 2023 with the theme "Respecting the law to build a safe traffic culture" in the spirit of "Human life is above all", the Provincial Red Cross Association has coordinated with the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee to organize training courses on initial first aid for traffic safety first aid volunteer teams to equip them with more knowledge and skills in the process of first aid for traffic accident victims.
The teams are provided with uniforms with the CTĐ logo; first aid kits, sterile medical gauze, medical gloves, fracture splints; uniforms, helmets... to help the teams operate effectively. In the first 6 months of 2023, the teams participated in first aid at 62 traffic accidents, assisted in transporting 28 victims to hospitals and medical centers...
