Ship owner commits not to increase ticket price from Ao Tien port to Van Don, Co To

Ship owners and passenger transport businesses from the high-class Ao Tien port to the island route of Van Don district and Co To district pledge not to increase ticket prices in 2025.

On March 24, in response to some information about ship owners and passenger transport businesses planning to increase ticket prices from the high-class port of Ao Tien to island communes in Van Don district and Co To district, leaders of the Department of Construction and the People's Committee of Co To district, Quang Ninh province had a dialogue with transport units to clarify the issue.

At the dialogue, representatives of enterprises with passenger transport vehicles on the high-class Ao Tien port route to communes in Van Don and Co To districts frankly shared difficulties such as: expensive fuel costs for a nearly 300-seat train in the low season with only a few dozen passengers; although Van Don and Co To districts have made many efforts to diversify tourism products, they have not yet met the needs of tourists, leading to enterprises having to compensate for losses in the low months...

Along with that, businesses also pointed out that, with the spirit of sharing and accompanying localities to stimulate tourism, ticket prices for passengers traveling by ship from the high-class port of Ao Tien to island communes in Van Don district and Co To district have been built and reported to competent authorities for approval since 2019.

Typically, from Ao Tien port to Co To district, the ticket price is 250,000 VND/ticket for small boats and 300,000 VND/ticket for large boats... Up to this point, businesses are still doing the same as before.

Business representatives spoke and shared relevant information at the dialogue.

At the dialogue, Ms. Le Ngoc Han, Secretary of the District Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Co To district, shared the difficulties and problems of passenger transport enterprises from Ao Tien port to the island route of Van Don and Co To districts, and affirmed that in the coming time, the locality will focus on implementing many new points to attract tourists.

In particular, the locality will build new tourism products, attract new visitors, create new tourism business opportunities and seek new partners...

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Bui Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Construction of Quang Ninh province, answered some questions from businesses, such as the issue of the route from Ao Tien high-class port to Co To district, dredging the channel to Co To wharf to ensure vehicles entering the port conveniently and safely...

Regarding the increase in ferry fares from the high-class port of Ao Tien to the island route in Co To district, Van Don, Mr. Minh suggested that businesses not do this in 2025; when adjusting the fare increase, businesses must clarify the reasons for consideration and decision by competent authorities.

"When declaring an increase in train ticket prices, it is necessary to choose an appropriate time to ensure both the business's revenue requirements and to ensure that it does not negatively impact local tourism development activities," Mr. Minh affirmed.

At the end of the dialogue, the ship owner and business leaders agreed with the proposal of the Quang Ninh Department of Construction and will only implement it when there are specific instructions from the competent authority.

The number of tourists going on vacation to the islands of Van Don and Co To has increased sharply recently.

According to information from Mr. Le Minh Manh, Port Manager of Ao Tien High-class Port, the number of tourists coming to Co To island district has recently increased sharply every year. If in 2023 there were only 442,287 visitors, by the end of 2024 it had increased to 513,913 visitors. Since the beginning of the year, there have been about 150,000 visitors...
