People's lives disrupted by power outages, Quang Ninh directs solutions to overcome

On the afternoon of June 4, the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province said that in recent days, widespread severe heat has caused electricity consumption to increase, especially in the North, at times electricity consumption increased by over 17% compared to the same period last year.

The cuts took place in an emergency and lasted for a long time in hot weather of nearly 40 degrees Celsius, disrupting people's lives and making it difficult for many households to do business. In particular, this is the tourist season, many customers choose tourist destinations in Quang Ninh such as Ha Long City, Van Don... for vacation.

Responding to VTC News reporter, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang - Director of Hoang Phuong Trade and Tourism Joint Stock Company (Ha Long, Quang Ninh) - said that for nearly a week now, the company's office has had no one working because the power has been out continuously and not at fixed times. There were days when the power was back on in the evening, after working hours, so the staff could not come to work, and many tourists were also stranded.

It is the peak tourist season, Ms. Hang also hopes that the electricity problem at the tourist area can be guaranteed.

A representative of the XH Hotel business in Ha Long City said that the power outage in Ha Long City made it difficult for the unit to receive guests. It was hot and sunny, the air conditioner could not be turned on, so guests checked out and went elsewhere.

In Cam Pha City (Quang Ninh), at some electronics stores, the number of customers at electronics stores also increased significantly due to the sudden increase in demand for household electricity generators after the rotating power outages.

Ms. Buoi - Owner of a generator shop on To Hieu Street (Cam Pha City) - said that on average, her shop sells about 15 - 20 generators per day, much higher than before. As soon as generators are imported, they are sold out.

According to the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, it is expected that the electricity consumption demand of the northern provinces will continue to increase in the coming days. In order to increase electricity saving and ensure safe and stable electricity supply in Quang Ninh province, especially during the peak hot season in 2023, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested heads of agencies, units, enterprises, production and business establishments and people in the province to immediately implement a number of urgent solutions to overcome the power shortage, ensuring electricity supply for production, daily life and socio-economic development in the province.

Specifically, departments, branches, sectors, local People's Committees, socio-political organizations, agencies, units, enterprises, production and business establishments and households in the province shall save electricity at agencies and offices; save electricity in public lighting, lighting for advertising and outdoor decoration purposes; save electricity in households, enterprises, production and business establishments; turn off electrical equipment when leaving the room and after working hours; completely cut off the power source when not using electrical equipment.

Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group and Dong Bac Corporation strictly implement the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade on providing enough coal for thermal power plants, including calculating and providing additional reserve coal in June 2023 and the following months, ensuring that power production activities are not affected by coal shortage.

Thermal power plants in the province strengthen technical solutions to operate thermal power plants optimally, safely, stably and effectively; strictly implement the direction of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Quang Ninh province to ensure power generation at the highest capacity, meeting the electricity demand of the national grid, the electricity demand for economic and social development and people's daily life in the province; fully prepare materials, equipment and human resources to promptly fix problems (if any), put repaired and maintained generators into operation to generate electricity as soon as possible, meeting the highest electricity demand.

Quang Ninh Electricity Company implements solutions to safely operate the power grid system managed by the unit at the highest level; strengthens 24/7 incident response; has a plan to ensure power supply for important electricity customers in the province approved by the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 871 dated April 4, 2023; presides over and coordinates with relevant units to work directly with large electricity customers to reduce electricity usage capacity and monitor implementation; immediately cut down on non-essential electricity usage activities; the process of suspending and reducing electricity supply must ensure harmony and compliance with legal regulations.

In addition, Quang Ninh Electricity Company balances the rotational power outages to ensure service to people's lives and local socio-economic activities. Notify organizations, businesses, and consumers in advance of the power outage schedule so that they can proactively plan their production and daily activities.
