According to information from GFK, sales of Apple iPhone models in the Vietnamese market fluctuate between 30,000 - 35,000 units/week. Vietnam is also considered a fast-growing market for iPhone consumption.
However, through discussions with a number of domestic retailers, the number of iPhones imported to Vietnam in the first two weeks of May decreased sharply, only about 25,000 - 30,000 units, not enough to meet domestic demand.
Before the official launch of Apple Store Online in Vietnam, some genuine iPhone distributors and retailers in Vietnam are "crying out" because of the severe shortage of goods. (Photo: MP)
Meanwhile, some distributors also revealed that in the next 2-3 weeks, the amount of iPhone goods coming to Vietnam will be relatively small, only about 10,000 units, in the iPhone 11, 13 and iPhone 14 models.
Currently, distributors have almost sold out of stock, the quantity of iPhone 14 Pro/ Pro max in general is very low while this is the product that contributes the main sales.
With this situation, within just 4-5 weeks of sales, there may be local shortages in some systems, and even retailers with short inventory turnover will experience out-of-stock situations.
Speaking to reporters from the Journalist and Public Opinion Newspaper, a representative of a domestic retail business said: In the current situation of shortage of goods, some branches have seen customers buying in bulk, with quantities ranging from 5 to 20 machines.
"It is very likely that small retail stores, due to a lack of supply, have had to switch to buying to replenish stocks," he said.
While the market is experiencing a local shortage, it is a coincidence that Apple officially launched the Apple Store Online today (May 18). Therefore, this person raised a question, is Apple "playing a trick" in the Vietnamese market, by both playing football and blowing the whistle.
Before Apple officially set foot in Vietnam, some mobile device retailers also officially closed down. For example, the case of eDigi.
eDigi's representative said that the company had to stop operating due to unfavorable market conditions. Specifically, there were many competitive factors, especially the source of goods, making the business of Apple products no longer as attractive as before.
