The Central Propaganda Department's working delegation worked with the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on publishing activities.

On the afternoon of September 11, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee received a delegation from the Central Propaganda Department led by Mr. Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, to survey the results of 20 years of implementing Directive 42-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat on improving the overall quality of publishing activities.

Attending the meeting were comrades: Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Phan Nguyen Nhu Khue, Member of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Head of the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Tang Huu Phong, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee...

After 20 years of implementing Directive No. 42-CT/TW, publishing activities in Ho Chi Minh City have had many positive changes, rapidly developing in scale, quantity, and improving the quality of publications, contributing to ensuring the effective implementation of political tasks, programs, and plans for economic, cultural, and social development of the city.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 2 publishing houses managed by the City, namely Ho Chi Minh City General Publishing House and Tre Publishing House, 4 publishing houses belonging to universities (Ho Chi Minh City National University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education), 4 representative offices of foreign publishing houses and 28 branches of central and local publishing houses; 1,360 printing enterprises, accounting for nearly 2/3 of the total number of printing enterprises in the country. The city has 1,509 local libraries and a library system in schools from primary to university.

According to Comrade Tang Huu Phong, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, the city's publishing activities have three highlights, specifically: publications published and distributed convey content and ideas in accordance with the principles and purposes of the publishing license; diverse forms of expression with printed books and e-books; good manuscript organization capacity, increasingly diverse topics, high-quality publications.

Another highlight of Ho Chi Minh City publishing is the policy of mobilizing social resources, an open mechanism to develop the publishing, printing and distribution career; aiming at the highest goal of serving the spiritual culture of the city's people; strongly exploiting the capacity and intelligence of individuals in book composition and editing activities and the financial potential, publishing business of organizations in the direction of culture, ideology and in accordance with the law, has created a vibrant appearance of the publishing industry in the current period.

Along with that is taking care of developing people's reading culture needs through organizing book events.

According to comrade Tang Huu Phong, the city has maintained and invested in building and developing a reading culture for many years. Many regular activities have become cultural highlights, attracting a large number of people such as: Tet Book Street Festival (from 2000 to present), Ho Chi Minh City Book Fair, Children's Book Fair, Book and Reading Culture Day... attracting hundreds of thousands of people/year. In 2023, Ho Chi Minh City will be the first locality to announce the Ho Chi Minh City Children's Book Award. Connecting many outstanding members in various fields such as researchers, book authors, journalists, students, singers, actors... to serve as reading culture ambassadors for annual terms, contributing to spreading the reading culture.

At the working program, the members of the Working Group listened to the sharing and suggestions from publishing and distribution units in Ho Chi Minh City. On behalf of the Working Group, Comrade Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, highly appreciated the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and the staff units for seriously and meticulously preparing the contents of the reports and documents; especially the arrangement and organization of the practical survey program of the Survey Group at publishing houses, printing establishments and book distributors.

According to comrade Phan Xuan Thuy, Ho Chi Minh City, with its position as a dynamic and creative center for publishing, printing and distributing books, leading in digital transformation nationwide, the implementation and organization of Directive 42-CT/TW and Party documents in the publishing field of the City requires higher and more comprehensive requirements and tasks than other localities.

To promote the advantages and achievements, overcome shortcomings and limitations, and continue to strengthen the Party's direction of publishing activities in the new situation, comrade Phan Xuan Thuy shared his wish that the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee would pay attention to, direct and implement a number of contents: Continue to promote the role and responsibility of the publishing house's governing body in leading and directing publishing, printing and distribution activities; Continue to consolidate and improve the resources of publishing, printing and distribution units in the context of the development of science and technology, digital technology and artificial intelligence, which are becoming trends in media and publishing; Synchronously and effectively implement the planning, arrangement and development of publishing houses in the direction of streamlining, quality and modernization in the spirit of the documents of the 13th National Congress of the Party; Pay attention to directing the implementation of training planning, fostering, and arranging the use of a team of leaders, editors, and publishers who are politically steadfast, professionally skilled, and have clear professional ethics to meet the requirements of tasks in the new situation.
