(Fatherland) - On the afternoon of November 12 in Hanoi, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong received Algerian Ambassador to Vietnam Sofiane Chaib for a courtesy visit.
At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong congratulated Ambassador Sofiane Chaib on his appointment as Algerian Ambassador to Vietnam, and believed that during his term, the Ambassador would effectively contribute to the development of cultural, sports and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Algeria.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong said that Vietnam and Algeria have a strong cooperative and friendly relationship with more than 60 years of history. According to the Deputy Minister, in terms of cooperation in culture, sports and tourism, the two countries have signed a cooperation agreement in the fields of culture and information and a cultural cooperation program for the period 2016-2018.
In particular, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Algeria, the Vietnam Drama Theater (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and the Algerian Embassy in Vietnam coordinated to stage and perform the play The Rubber Sandal Man by Algerian author Kateb Yaccine in 2023.
In the tourism sector, in June 2015, the two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism cooperation. In 2017, the two sides established a tourism cooperation monitoring committee in each country.
The signing of a memorandum of understanding on sports cooperation was also implemented by the two countries in April 2010. In the African region, Vietnam maintains good relations, regularly sending teams to compete in international tournaments in some countries with traditional relations such as Algeria.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong also said that Vietnam is actively developing Vietnamese martial arts in Algeria in particular and Africa in general. Vovinam has been included in the African Games Program after these efforts. Vietnam has also sent a number of martial arts masters to Algeria to help train Algerian martial artists in Vovinam.
The Deputy Minister expressed his hope that in the coming time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Embassy will continue to promote the good cooperative relationship in the past time and at the same time hope that the Ambassador himself will continue to spread the solidarity and traditional friendship between the two countries through cultural, sports and tourism cooperation activities.
The Deputy Minister said that the two sides need to study and sign cooperation documents for the next period; encourage the implementation of cultural and artistic exchange activities, film festivals... in each country.
Cooperation activities need to be implemented more strongly on occasions commemorating milestones in diplomatic relations between the two countries. Along with that, promoting cooperation and exchanges at international organizations and multilateral forums such as UNESCO, the International Organization of La Francophonie, etc.
In tourism, the Deputy Minister suggested that both sides strengthen and proactively provide information to introduce and promote the country, culture, and people; organize online seminars to exchange experiences in tourism development... between the two countries.
Regarding sports, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong affirmed that the two sides need to maintain and develop the movement of studying and practicing Vietnamese traditional martial arts in Algeria. Cooperation needs to be carried out at the federation and association levels to maintain and develop Vietnamese traditional martial arts in Algeria in particular and African countries in general.

Thanking the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong for the warm and friendly reception, Ambassador Sofiane Chaib stated that Vietnam and Algeria have a long-standing traditional friendship and similar history. Algeria is the only African country with two avenues named after Ho Chi Minh. With the foundation of a close relationship and special feelings for each other, during his term, the Ambassador affirmed that he will actively contribute to promoting cultural, sports and tourism cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Ambassador, at the 12th Session of the Vietnam - Algeria Intergovernmental Committee taking place in 2023 in Hanoi, the two sides agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of culture, sports and tourism.
During his term, the Ambassador hopes that Vietnam and Algeria will promote people-to-people exchanges through cultural, artistic, sports and tourism cooperation activities. In particular, cooperation in cinema and cultural heritage is considered one of the highlights.

In addition, the two sides need to increase the organization of cultural days and weeks in each country; exchange performing artists; and hold photo exhibitions about the country, culture, and people of the two countries.
The Ambassador stated that Algeria will effectively coordinate with Vietnam to successfully organize activities, helping to promote cultural, sports and tourism cooperation between the two countries.
Ambassador Sofiane Chaib also said that geographical distance is not a problem in developing cultural, sports and tourism cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador hopes that through the implementation of cultural, sports and tourism cooperation activities, the people of the two countries will have more opportunities to learn about the history, country and people of each side./.
