On the morning of January 6, Mr. Pham Van Thai - Chairman of Tan Loi Ward People's Committee (Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak) - said that Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dat (34 years old, an officer of the Office of People's Council and People's Committee of Buon Ma Thuot City) had acted bravely, saving 2 children in a burning house in this city.
Mr. Dat said that at around 3:30 p.m. on January 5, he and his wife were passing through the area where Ly Thai To and Ngo Gia Tu streets intersect when they discovered a fire in a 3-story house on the side of the road. Mr. Dat and his wife quickly stopped their car to help.
At that time, Mr. Dat and the people shouted to check for people inside the burning house but no one responded.
Because the fire was raging in the kitchen, and he feared the fire would quickly spread to the upper floors, he and another resident used available tools to break the glass door and climb inside to put out the fire.
"After breaking the glass door, I and the locals borrowed fire extinguishers from some nearby businesses and brought them inside to put out the fire. We ran upstairs to check and discovered two small children (born in 2018 and 2020 - PV) on the second floor, so we quickly carried them out," said Mr. Dat.
According to Mr. Dat, the incident happened so quickly that he didn't have time to think much and just tried to get inside to put out the fire as soon as possible to limit the damage caused by the fire.
After helping to save two children and prevent the fire from spreading, Mr. Dat realized he had minor injuries and scratches on some parts of his body.
"When I saw that the two children were safe and sound, I was very happy. I think anyone in that situation would have rushed in to help. As for my wound, it was very small, no problem at all," said Mr. Dat.
According to the chairman of Tan Loi ward, the initial cause of the fire was determined to be a gas stove that caught fire while cooking and forgot to turn it off.
