According to statistics from the United Nations (UN), each year about 8 million tons of plastic waste is dumped into the ocean, causing the death of more than 100,000 marine creatures. In many large cities, air pollution is at an alarming level, with about 7 million people dying prematurely each year due to air pollution (according to the World Health Organization). Every year, the world's forest area decreases by about 10 million hectares (according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations), equivalent to 27 football fields disappearing every minute. Currently, more than 2.2 billion people in the world do not have clean water to use (according to the United Nations Children's Fund). Every year, about 1.8 million children die from diseases related to dirty water. We are witnessing the terrible consequences of environmental destruction: Climate change leads to rising global temperatures, melting ice, rising sea levels and more than 20 million people are forced to migrate each year due to natural disasters (according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). Floods, droughts, tsunamis and wildfires are becoming increasingly common and severe phenomena.
Those are the numbers that make up the weight of the message that the students of class 6A1 , Tan Tien Secondary School presented at the experiential communication session organized by the school. Mai Tan Phat, a member of the class's presentation team, shared: We cannot live without a green, clean environment! If one day clean water becomes a luxury, air becomes something that must be bought with money, what will life be like? If we do not act now, future generations will no longer have the opportunity to correct the mistakes we are making. We have researched information from reliable sources on social networks, combined with textbook knowledge to have the most valuable messages, sent to all students of the school as well as everyone. Let's change right now, right from today with the smallest actions to save the earth.
Through experiential activities, students of Tan Tien Secondary School, Dong Phu District sent many messages about protecting the environment and the earth.
Each class has a different theme, story, and message, but all have the same purpose: to raise awareness among students in the school, and together spread the message of protecting the earth. Tran Thanh Lam confided: Every day, we still see plastic waste on the streets, black canals, the air becomes heavy with dust and pollution. As a student, I will take specific actions such as participating in school propaganda sessions, green activities, specifically collecting trash in the neighborhood, using recyclable products more often, not littering, and sorting trash properly.
Each story and message from students reflects their awareness of environmental protection and beautiful landscapes.
“The school always pays attention to environmental protection education and regularly builds awareness in all students. Throughout the school year, there are always many related contents implemented and the construction of practical experience programs is for students to turn knowledge into concrete actions in school as well as in the community. From there, each student becomes an active propagandist to parents and many people in society, joining hands in the task of environmental protection” - emphasized Mr. Vu Van Bac, Vice Principal of Tan Tien Secondary School.
Protecting the environment is not the job of one person but the responsibility of everyone. Every small action of ours such as: not littering, planting trees, saving water, limiting the use of plastic products... are all important steps in the journey to protect the earth. And what the children are educated and aware of in today's experiential activities is very useful in daily life, so that they themselves will be "little heroes" on the environmental front, joining hands to protect the green planet. Every small action, when carried out by millions of people, will create a big change.
