Raising wild boars for commercial purposes combined with supplying breeds and creating products from wild boar meat is a quite effective direction that Ha Quoc Ninh (Phu Thanh commune, Phu Tan district, An Giang province) is implementing. The model opens up a new direction in the start-up process for rural youth.
Initial economic efficiency from wild boar farming model
After researching on social networks and taking advantage of the vacant land behind his house, Ha Quoc Ninh decided to raise wild boars, creating a new direction for family economic development.
This wild animal brings high economic efficiency, plus the characteristics of being easy to raise, less susceptible to disease, suitable for small-scale farming... Therefore, in 2020, Quoc Ninh started building barns and buying local pig breeds for farming.
While working and learning from the experience of the mass media and predecessors, Quoc Ninh's first batch of wild boars was successful beyond expectations.
Quoc Ninh shared: “Previously, someone had implemented this model in the commune. The model is not new, but the market has a lot of potential, high selling price, stable output... so I decided to implement it.”
Mr. Ha Quoc Ninh, a farmer in Phu Thanh commune, Phu Tan district (An Giang province) is taking care of a herd of wild boars.
The wild boar farming model is a new direction in the startup of Mr. Quoc Ninh, a young farmer in Phu Thanh commune, Phu Tan district (An Giang province).
After more than 3 years of working with this wild animal, Quoc Ninh said that raising Phu wild boar is not difficult. On the contrary, they are more resistant to weather than the meat pigs that are commonly raised locally.
They are omnivorous animals, so breeders can take advantage of many available food sources, from vegetables, tubers to other crops, such as: Bananas, elephant grass, rice bran... Therefore, Quoc Ninh can easily choose a food source that suits his family's economic conditions.
In addition, during the breeding process, wild boars can reproduce themselves, so there is no need to spend much on breeding animals. Only need to invest initial capital, then the herd will develop on its own. “Although wild boars are small, they have good resistance and rarely get sick.
When the pigs are 1 month old, they are vaccinated with the “5 in 1” vaccine. From then until adulthood, wild boars almost never get sick, helping farmers significantly reduce costs,” Quoc Ninh shared.
One of the factors that determine the success of the wild boar farming model is the construction of the barn: ensuring it is spacious, airy, clean; clean water system for bathing and drinking. Thanks to that, the wild boar grows quickly, develops well, gives high productivity, and ensures quality.
Diversified products from wild boar farming
Piglets can be sold to traders after about 6 months of being weaned from their mothers. At this time, each wild boar weighs 25 - 30kg. With a selling price ranging from 120,000 - 130,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, Quoc Ninh earns a profit of about 1.5 million VND/pig.
The selling price is high, while the cost is insignificant, so the profit is relatively good. In addition to selling live pigs, Quoc Ninh also sells pork (ready-made), packaged by weight of 200gr, priced at 300,000 VND.
In addition, Quoc Ninh provides breeding animals to local and foreign livestock farmers. The selling price of each animal is about 800,000 VND. In particular, this young man also makes sausages, supplying the market with a price of 400,000 VND/kg...
From providing a variety of products from wild boar, each year, Quoc Ninh's family earns a profit of over 230 million VND.
Quoc Ninh assessed that, compared to other livestock models, wild boar farming is less risky because it can take advantage of easily found and readily available by-products to feed pigs, thereby reducing livestock farming costs.
Wild boar meat is also favored by consumers because of its good quality, toughness, low fat... ensuring health safety.
“Up to now, after more than 3 years of working with the wild boar farming model, I feel satisfied because the model brings an ideal source of income. In the future, I will continue to maintain and develop it to create more income for my family,” Ninh shared.
The wild boar farming model helps Phu Thanh commune have a new direction for development in livestock restructuring, especially for young people who want to start a business in their homeland.
During the breeding process, Ha Quoc Ninh is willing to share his experience and support other young people with breeding stock. In the near future, Ninh plans to find a production partner; develop the model in a more systematic way, to supply quality products to the market.
