Early in the morning, when the tide was low, thousands of locals and tourists followed the bumpy stone path full of sharp oyster shells, in long lines, to visit Hon Ba Temple, praying for health, peace, and luck for themselves and their families.
Hon Ba is a rocky island, with murmuring waves all year round, located near Nghinh Phong cape, Back Beach of Vung Tau City. The island is covered in green by some coconut, areca, poplar and frangipani trees...
At the end of the 18th century (1781), a small temple was built on the island to worship the Goddess Thuy Long - who plays the role of regulating the climate to ensure favorable weather conditions for fishermen to work in peace, go fishing smoothly and have good luck.
Therefore, the temple is called Ba Temple, also known as Hon Ba. Ba here refers to the goddess Thuy Long. Over the past 200 years, the people of Thang Tam village have contributed funds many times to repair and renovate it into a spacious place of worship.
Every year, Hon Ba Temple, located on the island, holds four festivals on the full moon of January, April, July, and October (lunar calendar). From 5am to 9am is the low tide, when the tide recedes, thousands of local people make a pilgrimage to the island to attend the festival.
