Landslides and rocks caused traffic congestion on National Highway 4D, from Lao Cai city to Sa Pa town. However, authorities promptly organized guidance and traffic diversion to ensure smooth and safe traffic for people and tourists from Lao Cai city to Sa Pa town and vice versa.

National Highway 4D, the section from Lao Cai city to Sa Pa town, is always very busy with traffic. The landslide at 7:30 p.m. on July 22, at Km127+700, National Highway 4D, the section through Coc San commune, Lao Cai city, caused traffic congestion on this important national highway.

To ensure the safety and convenience of people and tourists, the Traffic Police Department (Provincial Police) has deployed forces to guide, regulate and divide traffic. Accordingly, vehicles moving from Lao Cai city to Sa Pa town will be guided to Provincial Road 155 (the road connecting Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway with Sa Pa town), the section in Coc San commune to go to Sa Pa town.
Captain Pham Quang Tung, an officer of the Traffic Police Department (Provincial Police) said: From early morning, we were assigned the task of dividing, regulating and guiding traffic so that vehicles could move smoothly and safely from Lao Cai city to Sa Pa town and vice versa. Drivers strictly followed the orders and were aware of traffic participation, so there was no traffic jam in both directions on Provincial Road 155.

In the scorching sun, the heat from the asphalt road rose up, but Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoang, a traffic inspector, Department of Transport, still worked hard, coordinating with the traffic police to guide, regulate and divide traffic. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hoang said: Our team has 6 people, coordinating with the traffic police to guide, regulate and divide traffic since the evening of July 22. The work is regular, continuous all night so it is quite tiring, but we are still happy, performing the assigned duties, ensuring the continuous and safe movement of people and tourists.

Being present at the landslide site, we clearly felt the efforts and urgency of the staff and workers of Lao Cai Road Joint Stock Company in overcoming the consequences of the landslide. It is estimated that the volume of soil and rock spilled onto the road surface is up to thousands of cubic meters, but the deployment of excavators and cars to clear it cannot be carried out as originally planned. The reason is that above the positive slope there is still a large volume of soil and rock that can fall at any time. The workers have to do it manually, using hoes, shovels, crowbars, etc. to dig up the piles of soil and rock above to let them fall onto the road. After assessing to ensure safety, they will bring in machinery to clear the soil and rock below to clear the road.
Mr. Han Manh Thanh, Director of Lao Cai Road Joint Stock Company, said: Due to the weak geology above the positive slope, a large amount of soil and rock is at risk of continuing to fall onto the road surface, so we have postponed the work of clearing soil and rock below to clear the road compared to the original plan. After the workers have basically handled the soil and rock above the positive slope, we will bring in an excavator to continue handling, and when safety is ensured, we will arrange vehicles to clear soil and rock below. We strive to temporarily open the road to traffic by 3 p.m. today so that people and tourists can travel safely. It will take a few more days to thoroughly handle the landslide if the weather is favorable.

Provincial Road 155 was previously a one-way road (from Sa Pa town to Lao Cai city) but is now divided into two-way traffic. Therefore, drivers traveling on this route must pay close attention, observe and strictly follow the instructions of the authorities and the law to ensure safety and avoid traffic jams.
