On the morning of August 2, Dr. Ly Vu Thi Bao Thanh, Head of the Pediatrics Department (Quang Nam Central General Hospital), said that this morning (August 2), a premature baby girl weighing only 1 kg was discharged from the hospital after 22 days of being actively saved and successfully raised by doctors.
The baby's health is currently stable and has reached a weight of 1.25 kg.
Previously, on the night of July 11, pregnant woman D.TN (34 years old, in Tam Giang commune, Nui Thanh district, Quang Nam) went into labor and gave birth to a premature baby girl weighing only 1 kg (at the time of birth, this woman was only 33 weeks pregnant).
The baby is well cared for by doctors and nurses.
Because of premature birth, this newborn baby later suffered from severe respiratory failure, had no spontaneous breathing, low SpO2 index, and the possibility of survival was not high.
The baby girl was diagnosed with low birth weight, congenital heart disease, neonatal infection and hyaline membrane disease.
Immediately afterwards, doctors squeezed the balloon through an oxygen mask, intubated, and injected Surfactant (to help ensure immature lung function).
After emergency care, the baby girl was rosy and continued to receive special care and treatment with intravenous nutrition (via the umbilical vein), antibiotics to fight infection, NCPAP breathing, and being incubated by her mother using the Kangaroo method.
This morning (August 2), the baby girl was discharged from the hospital to go home.
After a period of intensive and comprehensive treatment according to the correct regimen, the baby was able to breathe stably, breastfeed well, and after 22 days of care, his weight reached 1.25 kg.
According to Dr. Ly Vu Thi Bao Thanh, currently, the Pediatrics Department has successfully applied Surfactant pumping techniques, umbilical vein catheter placement, mechanical ventilation, NCPAP, Kangaroo breathing for premature, low birth weight, and respiratory failure infants. Through this, it contributes to improving the quality of emergency treatment for sick newborns...
