Not the student with the highest GPA, but with the most comprehensive record of achievements, Thanh Trung was chosen to represent the new graduates to speak at the graduation ceremony of the first batch of 2024 of Foreign Trade University on the morning of April 21.
Go to Foreign Trade to... be less lethargic
Before being a student of K59, majoring in foreign economics at Foreign Trade University, Le Do Thanh Trung was a math major at Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted, Pleiku city, Gia Lai province.
During his high school years, Thanh Trung was the class vice president, always leading the class in academic achievement, winning the Nay Der scholarship. However, the male student always felt that he was still very sluggish, lacking dynamism, even timid and self-conscious... because he had few opportunities for extracurricular activities, and if he did, it was only for soccer.
With the goal of entering university to step out of his comfort zone and become more active and confident, Trung decided to apply early (based on his academic record) to the Foreign Trade University and was admitted to the foreign economics major with a combination of math, physics, and English - achieving 28.9.
Far from home, far from family, alone "going North", when arriving at Foreign Trade, the male student told himself "I have to rush out, have to be busy with extracurricular activities", he registered to participate in any activity the school had.
The biggest turning point brought the Gia Lai male student closer to the student movement when he received the results of his admission to the information and propaganda department of the school's Youth Union. At the beginning of the second year, he was elected to the School's Youth Union Executive Committee, and at the beginning of the third year, he was trusted and held the position of Deputy Secretary of the School's Youth Union for the 2022-2024 term.
As deputy secretary of the school's Youth Union, a pioneering socio-political organization that leads the way for more than 400 youth unions and more than 40 affiliated clubs, after school, Trung devotes all his energy to the student movement.
"The first semester of the first year is the peak time for events, many events overlap each other so the work is quite stressful. At the same time, I also have to study an important major subject and take an oral exam. To balance both studying and extracurricular activities, I used to be very mentally pressured and physically exhausted," Trung shared.

Study well, active in Youth Union activities because of secret
Taking on the role of deputy secretary of the school's Youth Union with hundreds of student movement activities each year, Trung still completed his study program half a year early, achieving a GPA of 3.93/4.0.
Of which, Trung has 5/7 semesters with absolute 4.0, 5/6 semesters with type A encouragement scholarship, achieved 5 good students at city level in 2023; achieved absolute training score of 100/100 for the whole course; is a member of the school council for the term 2020 - 2025.
During three years of study, Trung was awarded certificates of merit many times by the Secretary of the Hanoi Youth Union, the school principal, and the Secretary of the school Youth Union for his outstanding achievements in the Youth Union and youth movement...

Sharing his study secrets, Trung humorously said: "Many seniors have said that just studying textbooks is enough to study well, I myself feel the same way."
Trung said he has never missed a single class session despite his busy schedule with the Youth Union. In order to not waste time reviewing, Trung tries to focus on the lectures to grasp 70% of the knowledge from class.
By the middle of a subject, the male student will outline a specific review plan, which day will be the day to focus on to achieve good results.
"Because I found the right learning method, after the first year I felt that studying was no longer a burden to me.
During my studies, I never put pressure on myself by comparing myself to anyone else. For me, the important thing is to achieve my goals and conquer myself, not anyone else," Trung shared.
Belongs to the top of the school
Dr. Vo Xuan Loc, Secretary of the Youth Union of Foreign Trade University - commented that in addition to being good at thinking, intelligent, sharp, and eager to learn, Trung is also a good listener, having good connections with lecturers and students.
According to Mr. Loc, on average there are 150 - 170 activities each year, all managed by the School Youth Union, Trung is the person who connects with the organizing committee of the events.
Because he is a Youth Union officer, he spends a lot of time on Youth Union activities and less time studying, but Trung still achieves a very good GPA. This proves that Trung has a scientific learning method in addition to good thinking. With a total training score of 100/100, Trung is also among the rare top students in the school.
"Choosing a student to stand on the podium to represent the new graduates in the graduation ceremony has many factors. Besides the score, it also requires confidence on a big stage, good writing ability, fluent speech... Trung is very deserving," said Mr. Loc.
