Ha Tinh industry expects growth target of over 11%

Unit 1 of Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant has resumed operation after nearly 2 years of suspension due to an incident. This is a factor that brings high expectations for the acceleration of Ha Tinh's industry in the last months of the year and the coming period.

Unit 1, Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant resumes operation after 2 years of suspension

Ha Tinh's industry in August 2023 recorded positive signals and marked a return to growth after a long period of difficulties. According to the provincial Statistics Office, in August 2023, Ha Tinh's industrial production index increased by 6.6% compared to July 2023 and increased by 49.03% over the same period last year.

Previously, the industrial production index continued to decline. Data from the Department of Industry and Trade shows that from the end of 2021 to mid-2023, the industrial production index continued to decline sharply. Specifically, in 2022, the industrial production index decreased by more than 16% compared to 2021. In the first 6 months of the year, the industry's production index still grew negatively (down 0.61%).

In addition to the difficulties of enterprises due to reduced orders, narrowed consumer markets, and increased input costs, one of the main reasons for the recent decline in the industrial index mentioned in socio-economic reports is that Unit 1 of the Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant (belonging to the Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company) had to temporarily stop operating.

Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant - the largest coal-fired thermal power plant in the Central region, is one of the leading enterprises promoting the growth of the entire Ha Tinh industry. However, on September 19, 2021, Unit 1 lost power for self-use, leading to damage to the details of the turbine-generator system and some other related equipment. The incident forced the unit to stop for troubleshooting and repair.

On August 12, 2023, after nearly 2 years of troubleshooting, Unit 1 was put back into operation and connected to the national grid. A representative of Ha Tinh Oil and Gas Power Company said that after a period of repair, maintenance, testing and ensuring technical parameters, stability, and optimizing the performance of the entire system, Unit 1 was officially put into commercial operation with a maximum capacity of 601 MW.

With the re-operation of Unit 1, it is expected that in 2023, the plant's electricity output will reach about 5,025 million kWh, with revenue reaching VND 9,777 billion. Along with the expected output in 2023, Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant also sets out targets and solutions for the following year, focusing on regular and periodic operation, maintenance and repair; applying technical improvements to production; closely monitoring performance management, testing and calibration of boilers and equipment systems of the unit to optimize operation, reduce fuel consumption...

Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh - Deputy Director of the Provincial Statistics Office said: Unit 1 of Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant resumed operation, bringing a positive signal to Ha Tinh's industry as the plant's production value contributed a large proportion to the growth of the electricity sector and industry in general. In the general increase of the industrial production index in August, the electricity production and distribution sector increased by 10.58% compared to the previous month and increased by 42.12% compared to the same period last year.

Along with that, the steel production activities of Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation, after many months of slow operation due to rising raw material prices and difficulties in the output market, showed signs of improvement in August.

Specifically, finished steel output in August increased by 9.7% compared to the previous month and increased by more than 91% compared to the same period last year. Thanks to that, the industrial production index in the first 8 months of 2023 was "pulled" up by 4.37% compared to the same period last year.

In 2023, Ha Tinh aims for an industrial production index increase of over 11% over the same period in 2022. According to calculations by the Department of Industry and Trade, Unit 1 of Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant will resume operation; in the last months of 2023, the mining industry will tend to increase due to the demand for construction materials for the construction of the North-South Expressway, the VINES Battery Factory project will come into operation, a number of production projects in industrial parks and industrial clusters will go into production and business... so it is expected that industrial activities will be able to implement the set plan.
