After 50 years of liberation, especially 28 years since becoming a centrally-governed city (January 1, 1997), Da Nang has made impressive breakthroughs, rising to become the leading urban center of Central Vietnam.

Upon becoming a centrally-governed city, marking the beginning of the process of building a city worthy of being the economic and social center of the region, Da Nang's leaders decided to make a breakthrough by renovating the city and improving its transportation infrastructure.

To secure funding for implementation, the city government leveraged its internal resources through innovative and groundbreaking policies such as exploiting land resources to generate capital for infrastructure construction, exchanging land for infrastructure, and the "State and people working together" model... which received widespread support and cooperation from the city's residents.

The first breakthrough came from the Han River Bridge, which was started in 1998 and inaugurated on the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang (March 29, 2000).

Subsequently, the East-West road (now Nguyen Van Linh), the North-South road (now Ham Nghi), the Bach Dang East road (now Tran Hung Dao), etc., were opened, resulting in the construction of over 2,000 roads and the emergence of hundreds of new, modern and well-maintained residential areas.

In particular, Da Nang has renovated its urban landscape with the Han River flowing through it and two beachfronts, exploiting its marine economic potential rationally and effectively; connecting increasingly modern infrastructure, strongly attracting domestic and foreign investors.

Through the efforts of the entire political system, the business community, and the people, Da Nang is asserting its brand as a leading tourist destination in the region and the world, having been honored twice by the World Tourism Organization (WTA) as "Asia's Leading Festival and Event Destination" in 2016 and 2022. Notably, 2024 marks the fifth consecutive year that Da Nang has won the Vietnam Smart City award.

In 2024, Da Nang's economy reached over 151,307 billion VND, an expansion of more than 17,000 billion VND compared to 2023; ranking 17th out of 63 localities and leading the provinces in the South Central Coast region.

Da Nang's economic structure is shifting towards strong development of service industries (accounting for over 71%) and industry (18.5%), while the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector is gradually declining (1.78%). Total budget revenue in 2024 is projected to reach VND 26,800 billion, a 23-fold increase compared to 1997; average income in 2024 is projected to reach USD 4,179 per person, a 9.95-fold increase compared to 1997.

Notably, the central government's permission for Da Nang to pilot the construction of a free trade zone and a regional financial center will be a historic opportunity in the city's development.

In the era of national progress, the City Party Committee has identified the theme for 2025 as: A year of focusing on streamlining the administrative apparatus with reduced administrative procedures, effectively implementing urban government organization and specific mechanisms and policies to strongly promote economic growth...
