The Ministry of Industry and Trade has just issued Circular No. 37/2023/TT-BCT regulating import tariff quotas for salt and poultry eggs in 2024, effective from February 6, 2024 to December 31, 2024.

Accordingly, the import tariff quota for poultry eggs (commercial eggs without embryos) in 2024, including chicken eggs with commodity codes 0407.21.00 and 0407.90.10; duck eggs with commodity codes 0407.29.90 and 04.07.09.20; other types with codes 0407.29.90 and 0407.90.90 is 68,670 dozen.
At the same time, the quota for salt item code 2501 (including table salt and denatured salt and pure sodium chloride, whether or not in aqueous solution or containing anti-caking agents or flow-promoting agents; sea water) is 88,000 tons.
Circular 37 also stipulates the method of allocating import tariff quotas for salt and poultry eggs in 2024. Accordingly, the import tariff quotas for salt and poultry eggs in 2024 will be implemented according to the allocation method prescribed in Decree No. 69/2018/ND-CP dated May 15, 2018 of the Government detailing a number of articles of the Law on Foreign Trade Management and Circular No. 12/2018/TT-BCT dated June 15, 2018 of the Minister of Industry and Trade detailing a number of articles of the Law on Foreign Trade and Decree 69.
Regarding the allocation subjects, import tariff quotas for salt and poultry eggs are allocated to traders who directly use them as raw materials for the production of medicines, medical products and raw materials for the production of chemicals and are allocated to traders who have import needs.
At the time of allocation, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will discuss with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to determine the time of allocation of import tariff quotas for salt and poultry eggs in 2024.
Previously, in Circular 13/2023/TT-BCT regulating the import tariff quota for salt and poultry eggs in 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Trade determined the import tariff quota for salt in 2023 (code 2501) to be 84,000 tons; chicken eggs, duck eggs, goose eggs and other types to be 67,117 dozen. The import tariff quota for salt is allocated to traders who directly use it as raw materials for the production of medicines, medical products and as raw materials for the production of chemicals. The import tariff quota for poultry eggs is allocated to traders who have import needs. The Circular takes effect from July 25, 2023 to December 3, 2023.
Import tariff quota is a measure applied by competent state agencies to decide on the quantity, volume, and value of imported goods with more preferential tax rates than out-of-quota tax rates./.
