These days, Ms. Bui Thi Cham (33 years old) and teachers at Trung Ly Boarding Ethnic Primary and Secondary School, Trung Ly Commune, Muong Lat District, Thanh Hoa Province are busy cooking for 214 students.
Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, Ms. Cham said that at noon on September 22, after checking the dormitory with the teachers at school and seeing that everything was fine, she went home to cook rice.

At 12:25 that same day, it was raining heavily in Trung Ly. Although she was having dinner with her family, she felt uneasy and worried about the students in the dormitory, so she decided to skip dinner, take an umbrella and go to school to check on the situation.
"When I got to the school gate, I saw that the gate had collapsed. Looking up at the hill behind the dormitory, the ground was sliding down in patches. I panicked and ran into the dormitory to shout for the students to run," Ms. Cham said.
According to Ms. Cham, seeing the students panic, she quickly ran down to the classroom and used a loudspeaker to announce: "There is a landslide behind the dormitory. All students are required to quickly run out of their rooms and move to the classroom area to ensure safety."

Ten minutes later, hundreds of cubic meters of rock and soil from the hill behind crashed into the dormitory, causing three rooms to collapse.
Ms. Cham shared: "Seeing the students scared and crying, I encouraged them to rest assured, there are still teachers, soldiers, and the government here."
Ms. Cham graduated from Vinh University with a degree in geography more than 10 years ago. In 2021, her husband was assigned to work in Muong Lat, and she followed him to Trung Ly commune to live. That same year, Ms. Cham applied for a contract teaching position at Trung Ly Boarding Ethnic Primary School and Secondary School.
The first day she came to the border area, she was shocked and cried a lot. However, when living and working, she loved this land because the people here are very honest and emotional.
"The spirit of studying, overcoming difficulties and bad customs to go to school to learn of the Mong children here gives me more motivation to stick with the profession. My decision to go to the difficult area was the right one," Ms. Cham confided.
Mr. Nguyen Duy Thuy, Principal of Trung Ly Boarding Ethnic Primary and Secondary School, said that thanks to Ms. Cham's quick-wittedness and bravery, more than 214 students of the school overcame the landslide disaster.
On September 22, it was Ms. Cham’s shift. Seeing the high risk of landslides, she woke the students up at noon and quickly moved their belongings out of the rooms. Currently, many rooms in the dormitory are severely damaged.
On September 24, the school’s students are temporarily off school to avoid the flood according to the instructions of the Department of Education and Training of Muong Lat district. However, the school still cooks two main meals (lunch and dinner) for all students staying at the school.

Trung Ly Ethnic Boarding School and Secondary School has 460 students in the dormitory. Since it is the weekend, there are 214 students in the dormitory; the other 246 students have gone home to visit their families and will return to school early in the week.
According to Mr. Thuy, teacher Bui Thi Cham is from Cam Thuy district (Thanh Hoa), and has been a contract teacher with the school for three years. As a teacher, she always upholds responsibility for her work, especially being on duty in the dormitory area.
Previously, as Dan Tri reported, due to complicated developments of floods and landslides, Muong Lat district evacuated nearly 300 students to ensure safety.
