VnExpressVnExpress21/05/2023

Ho Chi Minh City Defender Vu Van Thanh scored a double when Hanoi Police Club defeated host Ho Chi Minh City Club 5-3 in round 8 of V-League 2023 on the evening of May 21.

In the second minute, Ho Chi Minh City's net shook after Jesus Jhon Cley's close-range tap-in from Van Thanh's cross from the right wing. Five minutes later, from Huynh Tan Sinh's seemingly harmless clearance, the ball reached Jhon Cley's feet in the penalty area, causing Jonathan Campbell to commit a foul. On the 11m mark, Van Thanh decisively finished into the bottom left corner to double the gap.

From there, the two teams gave the audience an exciting score chase. In the 20th minute, the trio Daniel Green, Victor Mansaray and Hoang Vu Samson coordinated well. In the penalty area, Mansaray passed the ball to Samson to shoot low, narrowing the gap to 1-2.

In the 26th minute, Ho Chi Minh City's defense made another mistake when they did not clear the ball decisively, allowing Jhon Cley to finish, forcing Thanh Thang to make a difficult save. Then Van Thanh came in to complete the double, raising the score to 3-1. But the home team continued to attack and from Le Cao Hoai An's effort to dribble the ball from the right wing and cross into the penalty area, Mansaray shot close to the goal to restore the one-goal gap.

In the 43rd minute, Hanoi Police widened the gap again. Midfielder Trong Long took advantage of the space, shooting from about 22 meters to increase the score to 4-2. However, this former player of Ho Chi Minh City Club did not celebrate the goal against his old team.

In the second half, the excitement of both teams decreased, so it was not until the 65th minute that the next goal was scored, with the home team scoring the third goal. Daniel Green skillfully dribbled the ball down the left wing, overcoming Bui Tien Dung's challenge. In a face-to-face situation with goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang, he passed the ball to Samson, causing Tan Sinh to score an own goal in an attempt to retreat and clear the ball.

The score of 3-4 seemed to encourage Ho Chi Minh City to play better, aiming to reverse the situation. However, the home team's defense was careless, making the efforts of the foreign attacking trio meaningless. In the 71st minute, Doan Van Hau crossed from the wing without danger, but center-back Campbell missed, giving Tran Van Trung the opportunity to connect with his left foot, scoring the final goal of 5-3.

This result helped Hanoi Police have their third consecutive win, and extended their unbeaten streak in V-League 2023 to five matches. Thanks to that, they climbed to second place in the table with 14 points, equal to Hanoi FC but with a better goal difference (+9 compared to +6), four points behind Thanh Hoa at the top of the table.

Ho Chi Minh City FC is stuck in 13th place with four points, one point more than bottom-placed Da Nang and having played one more match. Coach Vu Tien Thanh's team has not won four consecutive matches and has not kept a clean sheet since the beginning of the tournament.

Starting lineup:
