Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit created a breakthrough, paving the way for new cooperation opportunities between Vietnam and Saudi Arabia and the Gulf region, according to Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived in Riyadh on October 18, beginning a visit to Saudi Arabia, attending the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and meeting with leaders of countries, leading corporations, and large investment funds of Saudi Arabia.

The Prime Minister's working trip was a great success, creating an important premise for Vietnam and Saudi Arabia to enhance political trust, open up new cooperation opportunities, as well as strengthen relations with Gulf countries, a region with a total GDP of 2,200 billion USD, Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet said today.

When meeting with the Prime Minister, leaders of the Gulf countries all said that there is still much room for cooperation with Vietnam in emerging areas, such as green transformation, energy transformation, promoting the development of the Halal industry, exporting agricultural and aquatic products, and labor cooperation.

The Emir of Qatar affirmed that "there are no limits in cooperation with Vietnam", and will coordinate to remove all barriers in promoting bilateral cooperation.

"Leaders of all countries highly appreciate Vietnam's role and position, its leadership and governance role, as well as the future development prospects of Vietnam's economy," Deputy Minister Viet said.

To create a breakthrough, Saudi Arabia’s $620 billion Public Investment Fund has pledged to devote more resources to major infrastructure development projects in Vietnam. Many large corporations in the country have also affirmed that they will consider expanding their investment activities in Vietnam in areas such as steel, pre-engineered steel, retail, agriculture and clean energy.

Speaking at the ASEAN-GCC Summit, the Prime Minister said that ASEAN and the GCC need to have political determination, dynamic adaptation, promote self-reliance and cooperation potential, as well as unlock development resources, initiate breakthrough ideas to break through and become a bright spot in regional and world cooperation.

The Prime Minister suggested that the two regions work together to create more favorable conditions for economy, trade and investment to become the main pillars, the driving force for connection and mutual support for development.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also said that ASEAN and the GCC need to strengthen multilateral cooperation to jointly maintain a stable and peaceful environment for development.

According to Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet, the meeting between leaders of 10 Southeast Asian countries and 6 Gulf countries has added new momentum to ASEAN-GCC cooperation for peace, stability and prosperity in both regions and the world.

Faced with the complex difficulties in the current global and regional situation, ASEAN and GCC leaders agreed to maintain regular exchanges and focus on economic, trade and investment cooperation, ensuring sustainable supply chains, as well as connectivity, maritime cooperation, energy security, food, Halal industry, energy transition, and climate change response.

The two sides also agreed to strengthen multilateral cooperation, promote dialogue, respect independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in each other's affairs, and join hands to address regional and global challenges.

The countries expressed concern over recent developments in the Gaza Strip, calling on all parties to immediately cease fire, end the use of force, respect international humanitarian law, and request that the parties in the conflict in the Middle East resume negotiations and resolve disagreements through peaceful means on the basis of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
