To have Trinh Thu Vinh of today, we cannot fail to mention the Korean expert, head coach of the Vietnamese shooting team Park Chung-gun. He is also the former teacher of Olympic champion Hoang Xuan Vinh.
In 2014, Trinh Thu Vinh began her athletics career in… athletics, specializing in middle distances. After 3 years of pursuing athletics without achieving good results, Trinh Thu Vinh was advised to switch to shooting, and the person who helped her switch from middle distance running to the shooting range was Coach Park Chung-gun. That was an important turning point in Vinh’s career and Mr. Park did not make a mistake.

After only 7 years of getting acquainted and practicing with top-level shooting, Trinh Thu Vinh has won 1 silver medal (10m air pistol team event) and 1 bronze medal (10m air pistol women) at the 2022 SEA Games; 1 gold medal (10m pistol mixed event, 2024) and 1 bronze medal at the Asian shooting (10m air pistol women, 2023). Compared to her time competing in athletics, Trinh Thu Vinh has been much more successful in shooting.
She had qualities suitable for shooting that Coach Park Chung-gun saw. And trained her to become a special talent of Vietnamese sports, as he and Coach Nguyen Thi Nhung created the miracle named Hoang Xuan Vinh. He is also the teacher of ASIAD champion Pham Quang Huy.

Mr. Park has made great contributions to Vietnamese shooting over the past ten years. However, he has also encountered many difficulties on his journey with the Vietnamese shooting team. Last year, after the 19th ASIAD, Coach Park Chung-gun was not even named on the podium, even though the shooting team helped the Vietnamese sports delegation win the gold medal at the Asian Games (shooter Pham Quang Huy). That created doubts that Mr. Park Chung-gun's contract would be terminated after the Hangzhou ASIAD (China).
However, the Department of Sports and Physical Training intervened promptly and coach Park Chung-gun signed a new contract to continue leading the Vietnamese shooting team towards the 2024 Paris Olympics. At the Olympics in France, the shooting team with key athlete Trinh Thu Vinh continues to be the leading medal hope for the Vietnamese sports delegation.

She reached the final of the women's 10m air pistol event, finishing 4th (just a little short of the bronze medal) a few days ago. Trinh Thu Vinh continued to compete in the final of the women's 25m sport pistol event. Trinh Thu Vinh's remaining problem before the final round is psychological. She needs effective psychological therapy to reach the highest level of success. The task of creating this therapy continues to be placed on the shoulders of coach Park Chung-gun.
After 10 years as the coach of the Vietnamese shooting team (since 2014), Mr. Park understands his students' strengths and weaknesses very well, before finding the right therapies at the right time. Mr. Park's therapies helped Hoang Xuan Vinh win 1 gold medal and 1 silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and helped Pham Quang Huy win a gold medal at the 19th ASIAD in 2023.

As for Trinh Thu Vinh, it can be seen that this female shooter's performance is gradually improving over time. Even at this year's Olympics, Trinh Thu Vinh's mentality and stability in her shooting series are getting better every day.
Coach Park Chung-gun's experience after decades of being involved in shooting, from Korea to Vietnam, combined with the experience he imparted to Hoang Xuan Vinh and Pham Quang Huy to help them reach the pinnacle of success, was passed on by Mr. Park to Trinh Thu Vinh.
