Can Tho City is located in the lower reaches of the Mekong River, in the center of the Mekong Delta, and is one of five centrally-governed cities. Can Tho continues to promote its role as the economic, cultural, social, defense and security center of the Mekong Delta and the whole country.

The economic structure has shifted in the right direction.

The fields of culture, education and society have positive changes and development in both breadth and depth. National defense and security are maintained, political security, order and social safety are ensured. Attention is paid to the work of Party building and building a clean and strong political system. The activities of the City National Assembly Delegation and the People's Council and People's Committee at all levels are increasingly practical, effective and of improved quality.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the leaders of the Party, the State, the National Assembly Standing Committee and the working delegation, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue acknowledged and praised the results and achievements that the Party Committee, government, army and people of Can Tho city have achieved in the past time in the context of both favorable and difficult situations, but more difficult than expected. National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that this was a very useful meeting because there were many issues proposed by the locality and the opinions expressed were directly related to many issues that the National Assembly will discuss at the upcoming 6th Session.

Informing that the 8th Conference of the 13th Central Executive Committee has just reviewed and decided on many socio-economic and state budget issues for 2023-2024, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue requested the City Party Committee to direct the dissemination of important viewpoints and orientations of the Central Committee, thereby clearly defining the general goals, some basic and important targets and main tasks and solutions for the remaining months of 2023 and for 2024.

Focus on leading and directing the more effective implementation of Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW dated August 5, 2020 of the Politburo on building and developing Can Tho city to 2030, with a vision to 2045; Resolution 45/2022/QH15 dated January 11, 2022 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Can Tho city of the National Assembly.

Basically agreeing with the opinions and reports of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue also suggested a number of issues in the coming time. The National Assembly Chairman hopes that Can Tho will expand its new production capacity, have a stronger influence on the whole region, and develop in the direction of "following nature". Due to the geological characteristics of weak and low ground, the city needs to focus on developing the agricultural processing industry and consumer goods production.

The National Assembly Chairman also asked Can Tho to assess more carefully the current situation, objective and subjective causes, focusing on subjective causes. “The spirit is that Can Tho is for the whole region, the whole country, but the whole region, the whole country must also be for Can Tho,” said the National Assembly Chairman.

The National Assembly Chairman also requested Can Tho to continue reviewing and proactively removing bottlenecks and obstacles based on the current situation and circumstances, and resolving issues within its jurisdiction. At the same time, coordinate with relevant agencies to resolve the issues in a resolute manner.

In addition, Can Tho will soon submit to the Government and the Prime Minister for approval of the Can Tho City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, as soon as possible. Recalling the goals set out in Resolution No. 59 of the Politburo and Resolution...

The National Assembly Chairman also requested ministries, sectors, the Mekong Delta Coordination Council and Can Tho to remove bottlenecks to help Can Tho promote socio-economic development, ensuring legality, efficiency and feasibility. The National Assembly will strengthen supervision and monitoring.

* On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue witnessed the Vietnam National Petroleum Group symbolically handing over 5 billion VND to support the construction of 100 solidarity houses for poor, near-poor, and extremely disadvantaged households in Can Tho city.
