The speech at the Hang Duong Cemetery Visiting Ceremony by the representative of Con Dao district's leaders stated: Con Dao - The sacred land marks the steadfast and indomitable struggle of heroic martyrs, revolutionary soldiers, and patriotic compatriots during the two resistance wars against the French colonialists and the invading American imperialists. In that fierce battle, many generations of fathers and brothers, following the sacred call of the Fatherland, did not spare their blood, bones, and youth to dedicate themselves to the cause of national liberation and national unification. On the sacred land of Con Dao, tens of thousands of outstanding children heroically sacrificed or left behind a part of their bodies, due to the fierce torture of the enemy. They lived and fought for the noble ideal "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom". Years will pass, but the contributions of the fallen heroes, revolutionary soldiers, and patriots will forever be recorded in the golden pages of history of the nation, like an immortal heroic epic, forever a tragic song about a painful time of an entire nation that no Vietnamese person is allowed to forget.
In Con Dao, President Vo Van Thuong, former Presidents Nguyen Minh Triet and Truong Tan Sang, Politburo members, Party Central Committee members and a large number of people attended the Memorial Ceremony for Heroic Martyrs, revolutionary soldiers and patriots who sacrificed their lives in Con Dao held at Con Dao Temple and respectfully burned incense at the martyrs' graves.
Hang Duong Cemetery with 1,922 graves, Con Dao Temple with 2,284 martyrs' names on stone steles. But on this land, there are still countless outstanding sons of the nation who have turned into dust. All of them have silently devoted their entire lives to the country, the blood and bones of patriotic prisoners have soaked into every inch of Con Dao land... And out there in the open sea, there are countless people who have remained at the bottom of the ocean after unsuccessful prison breaks. But all those hardships could not subdue the will, determination and faith of righteous people. The great sacrifices of many generations of Con Dao prisoners are heroic pages of the nation's history with their love for their homeland. 48 years have passed since the day the country was completely liberated, Con Dao escaped from the "hell on earth", the fierce struggle of the past on Con Dao land is only a memory. But even after 48 years or more, the heroic memories of Con Dao will last forever; the steadfast examples and noble sacrifices of many generations of fathers and brothers on this sacred land will forever be a bright torch, illuminating the path to glory of the nation.
The Party, State and people of Vietnam are always extremely proud and infinitely grateful to the heroic martyrs, previous generations and generations of revolutionary soldiers who sacrificed to gain and maintain independence for the Fatherland, bringing freedom and happiness to the people.
President Vo Van Thuong, former Presidents Nguyen Minh Triet and Truong Tan Sang; Politburo members, Party Central Committee members and a large number of people respectfully offered incense at the martyrs' graves./.
