Nam Dinh city develops diverse OCOP products

In order to maximize the potential and advantages of agricultural products and traditional products, in recent times, Nam Dinh city has actively accompanied and supported businesses and people to participate in the “One Commune One Product” (OCOP) Program. Thereby contributing to improving productivity and product quality, building local agricultural product brands, and bringing higher income to people.

In 2024, Nam Dinh city continues to affirm its position as one of the bright spots of the province-wide OCOP program when it officially recognized 9 more products meeting 3-star OCOP standards on November 15. Since the implementation of the OCOP program, the city has had a total of 45 products, of which 30 products have achieved 3 stars and 15 products have achieved 4 stars, the locality ranks fourth in the province in terms of the number of OCOP products; in particular, the rate of 4-star OCOP products is the highest in the province, accounting for 33%. Currently, the city has 33 OCOP products (9 4-star products, 23 3-star products; 1 5-star product, 12 expired products without re-recognition). The city is continuing to evaluate and recognize 4 new products of establishments such as: Thien Truong Phat Investment and Development Joint Stock Company; Hother ATP Company, Huong Cuc Business Household, Dao Thi Ha Business Household, especially with the participation of traditional specialties of Nam Dinh such as gai cake, lotus products. The production facilities not only improve the design, enhance the quality of products recognized as OCOP products but also develop new products to meet the needs of the modern market.

To achieve the above results, in recent times, Nam Dinh city has developed a specific plan, associated with strengthening extensive propaganda about the goals and significance of the OCOP Program; mobilizing businesses, production facilities, and people to boldly invest in expanding production scale in conjunction with ensuring criteria on quality, food safety and hygiene, focusing on product development based on the potentials and advantages of each locality to register for participation in the assessment and classification of OCOP products. In addition, the city directed the Department of Economics and Environment and relevant agencies to organize training courses, provide consultation, and orient product development for localities; guide production facilities, businesses, and cooperatives to improve the quality and packaging design of products to ensure product quality and suit consumer tastes. The city has paid attention to directing and implementing OCOP product assessment and classification activities seriously and promptly. Along with searching for and developing OCOP products, Nam Dinh city also coordinates with agencies and functional units to promote trade promotion activities, advertise, introduce, and support OCOP sales at booths at markets, fairs, and exhibitions inside and outside the province. Support posting information on a number of websites such as: ocopnamdinh.vn; ocopvietnam.gov.vn; on social networking platforms, on e-commerce platforms and selling via livestream.

In the list of newly recognized products this year, there is Huong Cuc sticky rice cake of Huong Cuc business household, Vi Xuyen ward. Ms. Tran Thi Huong Cuc, owner of the bakery, said: “Inheriting the traditional sticky rice cake making profession, over time, my family has continuously improved and enhanced the quality of sticky rice cake with the desire to preserve the familiar and meaningful gift of the homeland. The special feature of Huong Cuc sticky rice cake lies in the fresh ramie leaves - the main ingredient that creates the characteristic color and aroma. The ramie leaves are carefully selected from the homegrown ramie garden combined with fragrant sticky rice, green beans, lotus jam, pumpkin jam, lard jam and banana oil. All ingredients are carefully selected, completely natural, without preservatives to ensure the health and safety of consumers and create delicious sticky rice cakes with natural aroma”. To ensure that the sticky rice cakes are always fresh and delicious, Ms. Cuc's shop only produces according to customer orders. The gai cake is wrapped in banana leaves that have been steamed and sterilized and then vacuum-sealed to ensure that the flavor is preserved during transportation to consumers. On average, the bakery sells more than 200 fresh gai cakes every day. The product packaging is also elegantly designed, suitable for both personal use and gifts. This is proof of the success in developing traditional products to a new level. Currently, Huong Cuc gai cake products have been widely promoted at trade fairs, festivals, and Pho Festivals in provinces and cities in the region such as: Hanoi , Thai Binh, Ninh Binh...

The city’s newly recognized OCOP products not only meet quality standards but also meet increasingly high demands for design and utility value. From traditional products such as Huong Cuc sticky rice cake or Bach Diep lotus tea, to innovative products such as Phuc Khang Nam cordyceps or Hother ATP spice set, all demonstrate the spirit of innovation and the ability to meet diverse market needs. With the support of the government, the support of the people and the efforts of the establishments, the city’s OCOP program promises to continue to achieve even more outstanding achievements.
