On the afternoon of June 17, at the Presidential Palace, President To Lam received Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko.
At the meeting, President To Lam asked the Ambassador to convey his sincere thanks to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his good wishes on the occasion of his election by the National Assembly as President. The President also congratulated the Russian people on the successful organization of the presidential election last March and believed that Russia under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin would continue to develop strongly.
Vietnam always considers Russia one of the top priority partners in foreign policy, closely monitors the situation and supports Russia's stable development.
The Party, State and people of Vietnam always remember the great and wholehearted assistance that the people of the Soviet Union and the people of Russia gave Vietnam in the past struggle for independence and national reunification, as well as in the process of renovation, construction and protection of the country today.
President To Lam highly appreciated the positive development of the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Russia in recent times across all channels and areas of cooperation. He also expressed his delight at the significant increase in bilateral trade turnover in recent times.
The two sides still have a lot of potential to promote cooperation, especially in economics - trade - investment, infrastructure, transportation, tourism, people-to-people exchange, etc.
The President believes that through existing bilateral mechanisms, the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to be further strengthened in the coming time.
Regarding cooperation at international forums, the President welcomed the close coordination and mutual support between the two countries for peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko agreed with President To Lam's assessments of the relationship between the two countries in recent times, affirming that he and the Embassy will continue to make efforts to deepen the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The Ambassador hopes to promote bilateral cooperation in many fields, including economics - trade, defense - security, education - training, science - technology, tourism, people-to-people exchange, etc.
President To Lam agreed with Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko that the Vietnam-Russia relationship has a long history, the two countries have overcome many challenges and achieved many great achievements together, and also assessed that the upcoming visit to Vietnam by Russian President Vladimir Putin will be an important milestone in the relationship between the two countries.
The two sides agreed that agencies of the two countries will closely coordinate to prepare well for the visit, contributing to deepening the solidarity, traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
